After hours in Downtown’s Kerr Park is the place to be this Friday, June 20, 4:30 – 6:30 p.m., when downtowners rock-in the weekend with a little help from The Groove Merchants and Skirvin Hotel during the first-ever SoundBites at Sunset. Downtown OKC Inc., in conjunction with the Business mprovement District organized the special happy hour event as a festive conclusion to this year’s SoundBites in the Park lunchtime concert series.

“This after work concert is a first for the SoundBites in the Park concert series,” said Kim Searls, marketing director of Downtown Oklahoma City Inc. “Downtown is a great place to work and that’s because of the many great events happening throughout the area. We’re excited to provide this unique opportunity for downtowners to celebrate the end of the work week and rock-in the weekend.”

While the Downtown crowd enjoys the top pop sounds of the last three decades from the Groove Merchants, the Skirvin Hotel will serve up an array of fine appetizers and ice-cold beverages for purchase.

The Groove Merchants band was originally conceived in 2001 as an outlet for professional jazz musicians to play the cover songs they all loved and grew up hearing on the radio. Covering music from Steely Dan to Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind and Fire to top 40 music hits of today, this six piece rock and horn combo band quickly realized there was a connection to the audience who truly appreciated the complex harmonies and tight grooves that existed in their set lists. Today, the Groove Merchants employ the talents of some of Oklahoma City’s finest jazz and studio players.

SoundBites in the Park is presented by the Downtown Oklahoma City Business Improvement District (BID), managed by Downtown Oklahoma City, Inc. For more information regarding SoundBites in the Park or the BID, contact Downtown Oklahoma City Inc. at (405) 235-3500 or visit Downtown OKC > Home (http://www.downtownokc.com).

For those who have days which go beyond these hours ... how was it?
