LIVE on the Plaza Walk

Event Description

Second Fridays in the Plaza will never be the same, as Live on the Plaza walks transform the district streets into an open atmosphere of art and entertainment.

On April 11th, the premiere event, Live on the Plaza: Rodeo Style featured various artists in Struble Studios, DNA Galleries, PhotoArt Studios, Plaza Java Cafe, and Performance Dancewear. With thanks to deadCENTER Film Festival, a free screening of the film Shut Up and Ride was shown in the old ice house, future home of Velvet Monkey Salon. In a family friendly atmosphere, visitors strolled through the Plaza District enjoying the start of their weekends in perfect spring weather filled with art and entertainment.

If you missed this premiere event, many great walks are planned on second Fridays, including next month’s Live on the Plaza walk on May 9th. (tomorrow)From 7-11 PM, the Plaza District businesses will feature performing and visual art, including Struble Studios, DNA Galleries, PhotoArt Studios, Plaza Java Cafe and Performance Dancewear, who will host live ballroom dancing by Rose of Sharon Expressions. Kids can participate in making recycled art creations, or watch as artists paint live. Musical performances can be found at Plaza Java Cafe and the Convergence Collective. To cap off the evening, deadCENTER Film will screen the shorts from their upcoming Festival in June, a perfect chance to preview all the festival will have to offer. These screenings will be shown in the courtyard of Struble Studios. For more information on Plaza District Happenings, contact Kristen Vails at kristen@plazadistrict.org or call 642-0318.

I don't know what a Casino Bar is but I like the sound of it. And Pabst.

Casino Bar... is that like Henry Hudsons where you can play the card game machines and win money?

I'm glad that they are doing this. I hope the other "districts" in our city will begin doing the same thing! It would be awesome to have something like this to do every night of the weekend.

There IS something like this going on every weekend night and most weekday nights. There is so much to do in this town, it's absolutely impossible to get to even half of the A list stuff.

We are working to get a new site, so please bear with us until we do so! We have worked hard to get the district revived and now with so much progress we are reviving our image and website! Come check us out!

Totally agree. This weekend alone there is the Chuckwagon Festival, the Big XII Baseball Championship, Paseo Arts Festival, and the Gay Rodeo. Something for everyone! ;)

And many weekends, there are 3-5 live theatre options, sometimes more.
