I've put together an article containing my collection of Oklahoma City postcards which I actually own (as opposed to copying from someone else), mostly vintage (those that I could find, anyway). The scans are original and are a little higher quality (i.e., less "compression") than I usually post. My intention is to add more descriptive text later but for now, about 66 cards are there for your viewing pleasure at Doug Dawgz Blog: OKC Postcards (http://dougdawg.blogspot.com/2008/04/okc-postcards.html)

The cards are organized by my grouping ... Churches, Places to Eat, Medical, Miscellaneous, Schools, and Tall Buildings. A couple of selections from each group appear below:

Doug, cool collection!

Do you ever visit Ebay? You can get quite a few there for your collection.

There are close to 700 Oklahoma Postcards when I ran a search.

Most of the postcards I have are from John Dunning's Western Trail Trading Post at 9100 N. Western, Oklahoma City: IPOWER (http://www.westerntrailtradingpost.com/)

I have purchased on set on e-bay and now I don't know where I put them!

That's very impressive! I have read many of your posts here and have to hand it to you. You are doing a great job with our history as a city. I have bookmarked your blog as well. Thanks for what you're doing as it's not only nice to read and look at, it's a valuable contribution to future generations.

That's really cool Doug! I have some older post cards like this of OU and they are really neat to just look at every now and then. Great work!

I have to agree with MikeOKC Doug. Your website is on my favorites, I spend hours looking at it. Great job. IMO best OKC history site.

Hey Doug -
COOL POSTCARDS!

I have and intersting vintage post card of the airport. It pictures the old terminal building in the background (when I say OLD, I mean the really, really old one from the 1940s) with a small plane in front. A Native American is board the plane while an Indian Chief in full headdress sits atop a horse in full dance regalia. The caption reads: "Where the Indian Trail Meets the Air Trail: Oklahoma City Air Terminal Oklahoma." I will get a scan of it and post here for you. I also have some more recent ones - circa 1970s and possibly late 1980s.

Jen, I've limited the context of the postcards in the particular blog post at Doug Dawgz Blog: OKC Postcards (http://dougdawg.blogspot.com/2008/04/okc-postcards.html) to postcards that I actually own ... soooo ... it wouldn't be right to include it there ... probably you mean this one also shown, in low resolution, at Penny Postcards from Oklahoma (http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb/ok/oklahoma/postcards/ppcs-okco.html)

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~usgenweb/ok/oklahoma/postcards/trails.jpg

Note: on seeing your 2nd post, I see that it is the same, though I'd like to have a higher resolution image!!! <hint hint>

Several other nifty postcards are in Vanished Splendor II but I'll not include them in that particular article ... I will will probably do so later when putting together a more specific post on Will Rogers Airport & its history, back to its roots ...

My favorite (associated airport not identified, but the date is shown to be 1926 so it's probably not Will Rogers but, instead, Will Rogers' predecessor municipal airport)

Thanks, wsucougz,

I've updated the Postcards article to include a small amount of descriptive text for each postcard.

Doug, I have couple questions.

Does that original St. Luke's building still exist? I don't recognize it.

Your description of the Baum Building confuses me. Was it not at the NE corner of Sheridan and Robinson, across from the Colcord?

Also, your info on the old county courthouse seems to describe the current one:
The Oklahoma County Courthouse, 321 Park Avenue, was completed in 1936. Built during the same time as the Oklahoma Civic Center (Municipal Building and Civic Auditorium), it was consistent with the design of those buildings but was not technically part of the same project

Great post. Love those old postcards. I always wondered what that small monumentn was at 17th and Classen. Never stopped to look at it.

No, it is gone. It was originally east of the "High School" at NW 8th & Robinson and I don't presently recall what is at that location today.

Yes, that's the correct location ... I check my text and make needed corrections.

Thanks, I check that text out, too. I get blurry in my old age!

Thanks, JBrown, as always. I don't recall that the 17th & Classen "monument" was in the Postcards post (as opposed to here (http://dougdawg.blogspot.com/2007/09/okc-trolleys-part-1.html) in my Trolleys post.

I've fixed the items, JBrown, and thanks again! I quite obviously wasn't looking at the old courthouse pic when I wrote its associated text! Please let me know if you see any other mistakes!

I've been sick in bed for two weeks or I would have responded sooner to this.
