Anyone know when we can expect the first returns?

Fairly quickly, but the question is where will they be reported. I checked the TV and newsok web sites and didn't see any placeholders for returns. Did they follow them during the bond issue last year, or just report the finals?

I thought we have to wait until 10 pm to check out the results?

I'm trying to remember the details... but it used to be that you could get those incrementally, and it was just a matter of having someone at the election board to keep track. So you could put someone at each of the county election boards overseeing an election (which would be three, I guess, in this case) and track the returns as they came in from the precincts. You could get some by 7:15 or 7:20, but other might not come in until very late.

That's been years ago, though. I don't think anyone bothers to do that anymore. I don't even know if it's still possible.

On the News9 site with 1% of the precincts reporting, YES is winning at about 58%.

Long way to go, but a good sign!

We used to place people at all the precincts.... they post the vote totals by about 7:20pm.... thats how we always knew where we stood.

Now with 4% in, YES is getting about 60% of the vote.

Looking very good!

And that's pretty close to what the polls were showing.

Up that much this early is a great great sign! Yes it's still early, but I really doubt if a precinct went hard in a certain direction, that it would be to the negative. Anything in a precinct blowout is likely in the YES area IMO, so within another 10 percent, this thing could be really close to nailed down.

Great early returns.

I've got three tabs open in Firefox going.

One on OKCtalk, one on the Oklahoman's election results, and one on CNN to watch the presidential election results.

McCain has swept the Repubs. No close race there. ABC reporting that Huckabee will pull out tomorrow.

Looks to be a long haul - as expected - for the Dems.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma City won because we all can finally come together around a common team that represents ALL of us. I for one cannot wait to come back to the city and support a team that has OKC on its jersey. Man, unbelievable. I still predict unprecedented investment in DT OKC because of this vote. Thanks OKC

Might as well, we've paid for it...or will.

For just pennies a day, we all have brought the NBA to Oklahoma City. I really think it would be cool if the City owned the franchise, kind of like Green Bay.

As excited as I am about the results so far, with only 50,000 votes (approx. 61% of precincts reporting), it still looks like only about 10% or fewer of the total # of registered voters in OKC came out to the polls.

I realize this is in keeping with other municipal elections, but still, it's really rather sad. Anyone have an idea how many registered voters there are in OKC?

I really like the Oklahoma City Thunderbirds. It pays homage to our Native American and military history. Not to mention the merchandising would look really sweet if done right. I say we stay away from crimson/red, black and orange. We need completely neutral colors so OU and OSU fans won't feel alienated (yeah I'm sure some people would base their support on something as meaningless as team colors).

It prolly will be Sonics, but the NBA doesn't disallow name changes... they just look down upon that. The Royals became the Kings and the Braves became the Clippers, so it can happen.

I like the Sonics name and the Sonic boom tests from back in the day make it work, not to mention it could be tied into Tinker AFB.

But if the name changed, I'm pushing hard for Thunderbirds. Ties into Indian Heritage and the 45th Infantry. Two things to be proud of for sure.
