Hydropolis in Dubai is the world's first luxury underwater hotel.

In order to enter this surreal space, visitors will begin at the land station. This 120m woven, semicircular cylinder will arch over a multi-storey building.

Hydropolis is about to take shape 20m below the surface of the Arabian Gulf, just off the Jumeirah Beach. The land belongs to His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and was his last free beach property on this stretch of coast.

Hauser plans to incorporate many different elements associated with the sea. He views his creation as a place where those who do not dive - or do not even swim - can experience the tranquillity and inspiration of the underwater world.

The upper storeys of the land station house a variety of facilities, including a cosmetic surgical clinic, a marine biological research laboratory and conference facilities.

Sounds like disaster waiting to happen.

Roland Emmerich is licking his lips waiting for the movie option to come up.

And the incredibly horrid movie 10,000 BC

( sorry, I'm still bummed that I sat through that piece of garbage)

This hotel looks fascinating but it would cause me to hyperventilate if I really started to think about it. Like a submarine.

I wonder what kind of safety precautions it offers?

Anyone ever been on a cruise ship balcony in the middle of the night? During the day, you're so busy with activities you seldom realize that you're actually in the middle of this enormous, gigantic body of water.

But, in the middle of the night, when you're sitting on the balcony looking at the stars and nothing but endless black water, it hits you... and you start going over the lifejacket drill in your head again.

Then of course, I always imagine falling overboard and no one knowing that I did until morning and me treading water until I couldn't anymore.

Sheesh, I'm scaring myself!

Seriously, my kids are not allowed in our room with the balcony... because I easily freak out if they near the edge.

See, that's how I'd be trying to sleep in an underwater hotel. It's the nights that would do me in.

Nah, it'd be the cold water, but it would be quick, if that helps any. :)
