Is this a bad omen for a trip to Las Vegas?? Our booked hotel The Monte Carlo, is on fire - uh, oh.

Not sure what this means for our trip in a few weeks boo,hoo....

I'm just happy that no one was hurt but am now wondering what this means for our hotel plans ... maybe we should start looking for a new room?

Of all the hotels in Vegas, our catches fire? This doesn't bode well for my gambling luck does it?

the Monte Carlo is on fire?!
And you actually paid for a hotel room? I have never paid for a room there in my life. I usually stay at the Imperial Palace though - it's right in the middle of the strip and comfortable there. I've also stayed at Mandalay Bay, Caesar's, and MGM.

Why, do you get comped? I don't gamble enough to get comped a room there.

I've stayed there a few times and it's pretty nice... last time we got to stay in the Penthouse Suite - we were upgraded, don't know why...it was cool... private key to the elevator... now, just glad it didn't catch on fire! That's where the bulk of the fire was.

We booked our room a few weeks ago, we are meeting our friends there who had booked a room there as well.. so now we are trying to figure out if it will be okay to stay there. I think it will be.

They own 10 properties on the strip.. maybe we'll get to stay somewhere nicer! I'll take the Bellagio or the Wynn or maybe the Palms.. tee, hee.

I'm sure you will be okay, but yeah - maybe they will upgrade you or move you to a bigger nicer room. It looks like they contained the fire pretty early.

I learned a few tricks while I was there the first time. Always make nice with the floor manager. That person is always bored and tired of hearing complaints. Tell them how friendly and helpful the staff has been and that you really enjoy their casino. Ask them if there is anything they can recommend to you as far as games to try or where to eat or maybe entertainment. Is there anything in this hotel you are missing out on. If you have a room - wala upgrade. If you do not, you do now. And most likely free tickets to a show and to the evening and breakfast buffet. Always get a players card and make sure the game tables know you have one. Free stuff flows out of this area and with that little card.

I know it sounds like I'm a gambling addict - but I have only been less than 5 times all less than a week long. And that's the way I see it - I'm not there very long and I don't have much money. I want the money and time I do have to be spent on something more than a bed to sleep in and food to keep me going. I just have this incredible knack of reading people and playing the system. I'm a pro BSer I guess! Ha. Comes easy when you work so much with the public and in the bar/restaurant industry. You have to learn how to read people and haggle deals.

Good tips... yeah, I feel the same way, you always get more with honey instead of vinegar ( or something like that!) and I always feel better about 'wrangling' a deal just by being nice and having someone give it to me instead of being a complainer and demanding it... just not the same satisfaction for me.. plus, I'm sure the managers don't like to get complaints all day - a little kindness goes a lonngggg way.

Oh no, that's too bad. The Monte Carlo is a beautiful hotel. Are you going to get to stay there or is the whole place shut down now?

Well we found out that the Monte Carlo is still closed and we have been moved to Mandalay Bay - YIPPPEEEEEEEEEEEE !

The only bad thing is that our friends flying in from CA don't arrive until the 15th and they haven't moved them yet.. it will be a true bummer if we got moved to one hotel and they to another... oh well, we'll see what happens.

I just can't believe the Monte Carlo is still closed.. pretty sad, I can't imagine the money they are losing.. I wonder, will insurance cover lost projected revenue? Or just real damage?

Oh GAWD the Smell!
