WinterTales Storytelling Festival
February 15-17, 2008, Downtown Oklahoma City

Downtown OKC— Since 1981, the Arts Council of Oklahoma City’s WinterTales has entertained audiences with imaginative stories and performances. The tradition continues this year, with WinterTales scheduled for February 15-17, 2007 at Stage Center (400 W. Sheridan).

Volunteer co-chairs Cheryl Vaught and Stephen Kovash promise a weekend full of delightful stories from nationally-acclaimed storytellers Syd Lieberman, Nancy Donoval, and Dovie Thomason. Singer-songwriter Steve Poltz will add his engaging music to the performances.

Featured teller Syd Lieberman comes to WinterTales from Chicago. He is known for his varied repertoire, often telling of growing up and raising a family in Chicago, or telling original historical pieces. He brings experiences as a teacher and author to his storytelling. Syd has won awards for his teaching, and has told his stories across the nation.

Nancy Donoval joins WinterTales from Minneapolis. Her stories explore the way memories shape our sense of self and create identity through the stories we tell. Her background as a theater director and communication coach help other learn to perfect their message. Nancy has performed at storytelling festivals across the country.

Dovie Thomason is an award-winning storyteller, recording artist, teacher and author. She has been recognized internationally for her ability to take listeners back to the timeless place that she first visited as a child, hearing old Indian stories from her Kiowa Apache and Lakota relatives. A former teacher, Dovie establishes a rapport and bond with audiences of all ages.

San Diego resident Steve Poltz uses anecdotes from his own life to set his stories to music. He co-wrote the longest-running song on the Billboard Top 100, had a debut solo album that earned three and a half stars in Rolling Stone, and was names “San Diego’s Most Influential Artist of the Decade” at the San Diego Music Awards.
