I left my house about 6 a.m. and the roads were passable. Saw several salt/sanding trucks so hopefully that will help.

But I dread the drive home and tomorrow a.m.!

Well...here in Norman just got power back about 20 minutes ago after being out for the last 5-6 hours. 10 dead so far. Probably one the worst ones we have had, just because of the area impacted. The last big ice storm really stayed out towards Clinton and such and impact fewer people.

Definitely an interesting storm to follow if you aren't having to get out in it.

Yeah, we were kind of joking on the other threads about over reaction but this time, they may have hit it right.

We haven't lost power yet in Edmond but apparently thousands have in South Moore/Norman/OKC.

Jones High School burnt down because of a blown transformer (no power for the hydrants) and 11 people dead from accidents on the slick icy roads.

No school today and I'm betting tomorrow and maybe Wednesday as well.
Don't get out there unless it's mandatory. Seriously, it's not worth it.

I think we may be trapped here. Trees and branches keep falling onto the sidewalks and they are becoming difficult to pass lol.

The gate behind us has been completely taken out by two trees that fell. And we keep hearing more and more falling. The ice is collecting on our breezeway...I think I'm going to have to sweep it away.

I also think I'm going to make some brownies. And a bbq chicken pizza. Yup. I called my sis and she's baking, too. And cooking. It seems to run in our genes. Provide, provide, PROVIDE! I'm glad I did my shopping on Saturday or else I'd be screwed!

My trees are breaking and falling all over. Curse Mr. Nichols for putting elm trees up everywhere. The ones I haven't had to take down already are now falling down. It sounds like gunshots going off outside.

Wow, they said 2 out of 3 people don't have electricity.. how did we get so lucky?

I just called and ordered Chinese Food for Delivery... I was amazed they were still delivering food but they said no problem.... they are out driving around all day.. so I ordered.

I'm feeling very lucky today...... warm and cozy.

I hope that the power comes on for everyone else.. it's really sad that so many people are in the dark and probably cold.

I have no trees in my yard. This is my backyard with the trees from next door.

http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2003-6/214646/UIVLX-CKXNT-Image006.jpg

Finally the house across the street. This tree split in half but is still connected at the bottom. The part that split off is laying right across their porch blocking their front door.

We still have no power as the lines are down all up and down the streets around us.

If the trees are properly handled, in a year or two they should come back. However, we had storms like this back home in SoOK and we lost entire trees, they just couldn't handle it.

That said...my home here no longer looks like my home. I'm sad. I hope they hire a real tree person and not some hack to fix it all.

Yesterday I drove around south OKC and Moore to view the damage. It looks like most of the big, old trees were severely damaged, but many of the new and smaller trees didn’t break under the weight of the ice. Hopefully this rain will wash the heavy ice off of everything and give us a better view of the actual damage.

BTW, I washed the ice off of my trees and house with the garden hose when it was just starting to get thick and didn’t end up with any damage at all.

Very nice pictures.

Norman was hit pretty hard by the ice storm. Unfortunately I don't think many of the big old oak and maple trees around town are going to make it.

I think my big elm, age fiftysomething, which lost about 20 percent of its crown, will survive nicely, especially since most of the area that dropped off was already dying and in need of pruning. (The one next door isn't so lucky; it split in two.) I will, however, lose a Vitex agnus-castus.

A huge tree at my old elementary school - Lafayette- completely fell over!
I just noticed it!

I also saw that Moore and Edmond schools are open...

I really don't understand how they can open OKC public schools if people dont have power....

I know Southeast has power, but i know Webster doesnt. A couple of my less fortunate friends have no more clothes to wear because they are all dirty.

how can they expect us to be prepared without electricty???
OKC Public Schools had benchmarking all this week but thatll have to be rescheduled and i had several reports due, but i have no where to go to print them out.

If the school system has schools with power and schools without power...will they only open the ones with power? or keep the whole thing down?

Architect--BREATHE. Your reports will get printed. Don't worry about what schools will and won't be open. Let the administrators deal with it and you just deal with your end of it. I seriously doubt that your teachers are going to demand you turn in work that required you to have power to do it. I know I won't expect my students to be turning in papers and stuff like that.

It's still early in the day, I bet more and more places will be coming online as the day wears on.

I live down here in Heritage Hills and it sounded like gunshots were coming from all directions with the large limbs breaking.

I have seen limbs almost fall on neighbors while they were out assesing the damage. I have seen many cars under limbs. I have now seen 3 days with out power and no end in sight.....

It is about time the Corp.Com. looked into the reason as to why we do not have buried lines. They are there to help and represent the taxpayer and not the corporation....Sad thing is it hasnt mattered which party has been in control of the CC they have all looked out for the interest of the corporations that got them there through countless donations....

Paseo sounded similar, but I'm sure not as bad. I almost cried when I drove through Heritage Hills, all those beautiful old trees :( I haven't dared drive by Harvey & 16th yet where my dream house is, sad sad. I have been without power since Monday morning and bet all the neighborhoods in our area will still be down for a few more days.

Well about 10 minutes after my original post...power went out again. Still out. Neighbors two doors down on either side have power, but my house and two next door neighbors and then the two rows of home directly in front of me to the next street are out as well. We are just isolated it looks like...which is weird. We are also all underground lines here too...so who knows what is going on.

Have most of the house closed out and just camping in the living room next to the gas fireplace which doesn't really put out much heat. Having to keep charging the laptop in the car to really get any form of entertainment right now.

Definitely a sucky situation. Sounds like a couple more days.

You know how much it would cost to bury lines in the older neighborhoods? MANY MILLIONS of dollars. When some of that cost is passed on to the consumers, people will complain.

Good thing is that they are burying lines in the newer neighborhoods.

they are saying OKC still has like 28 schools w/o power. it would be crazy at the end of the year saying that X amt of schools get out on May 30, but X amout of schools will go until june 7. i think that is why they are waiting until more schools are open.

edmond is open mostly because with all the new building going on, alot of trees have already been cut, per my principal!!

she is letting people bring their small pets and children because alot of daycares and other districts are closed, and it's not fair that we have to take time off!! today should be interesting up there!

Well, back to work, FINALLY. I was getting cabin fever. A lot of my students were SO whiny on myspace last night...WHY is our principal making us go to school, the roads are icy (no, they're not) there's a branch in my street (then move it, dimwit) it's not warm enough there (yeah, it is...especially if you're a kid without power right now) wah, wah wah!

I have work to do. Lots of it to get done, including two pressing yearbook deadlines. I WANT to be there. And despite my close proximity, I'd go regardless of where I live, if I could get there. I can't stand being stuck at home or shopping ANYMORE!
