SandRidge Santa Run Saturday, December 1

Whether you run or walk, the entire family will enjoy some holiday fun and fitness at the Downtown in December SandRidge Santa Run, on Saturday December 1. The SandRidge Santa Run includes a 5K run, a One-Mile Fun Run and a Santa Claus Kid’s Dash for tots, as well as cash prizes for best costumed runners. All runs begin and end at Leadership Square, 211 N Robinson. The 5K run begins at 9 a.m., followed by a Santa Claus Kid’s Dash for tots and One-Mile Fun Run at 10 a.m.

Awards will be presented to the overall male and female 5K winners, as well as the top three finishers in each five-year age group. Best costume awards will be presented to the top three runners in costume. Best costume winners will receive cash prizes of $250 for first place, $100 for second place and $50 for third place. Voting will take place immediately after the race and will be decided by a volunteer judging panel. All runners are invited to an after party at Leadership Square at the conclusion of the runs. Runners will gather in the warmth of for treats, refreshments, surprises and an awards ceremony.

Pre-registration is being accepted now through November 29 at D in D Home (http://www.downtownindecember.com). Pre-registration is $20.00 or you can register on race day at Leadership Square beginning at 7 a.m. for $25.00. The One-Mile Fun Run is $5 for kids 12 and under and $10 for adults. The Santa Claus Kid’s Dash is free for ages eight and under. A special $25 Family Package is available for five people for the One-Mile Fun Run.

Special activities and guests:

· 4 elementary schools from OCPS will be send several hundred students to participate in the 1-mile run

· Stephanie Canada, Oklahoma’s Teacher of the Year, will be there to lead the kids in a pre-race warm up

· OKC Firefighters recruit class (50) will be there to run the 1-mile

· There will be a Health Fair inside Leadership Square with a focus on children.

· Health Fair activities – diabetes prevention, lupus testing, immunization information, poison control, exercise training, blood pressure tests, body mass index testing

· Other activities: Clowns, Games, Dance Revolution, Face painting, Make your own trail mix station

· Starbucks will be giving away hot chocolate and coffee

· 7:00 a.m. registration open

Proceeds from the SandRidge Santa Run benefit the Oklahoma City Police Athletic League (P.A.L.), a charter member of the National Association of Police Athletic Leagues. The National Association of Police Athletic Leagues is recognized as the largest juvenile crime prevention program in the nation. PAL is dedicated to reducing crime by providing safe, healthy alternatives for children from high risk neighborhoods. PAL is available to all children who wish to participate.

The run is sanctioned by USA Track and Field, and the 5,000 meter course through downtown Oklahoma City is certified as accurate by the Road Racing Technical Council.

This was a pretty good little run - the long uphill backleg with the headwind was brutal for the moderately-in-shape such as I. The Kenyan's chuckled.

Definitely better than being hungover.
