I drive down Sooner Road near Britton quite a bit on my way home from work and if you are traveling south from the Edmond area around Britton and Sooner, you will see a HUGE house on the SE side of the road.. 9200 N Sooner Road.. 22,995 SQ house that has a market value of 20 grand.. Am I reading this right?!?!

it appears to me that the quoted market value for that particular property is for the unimproved value of the land without any structures on it. notice that the market value and the land value are identical. at two years, the structure is still pretty new and the record may not yet be updated to reflect the actual amount taxed... but i certainly wouldn't rule out shenanigans.

Sure you're reading it right.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm pretty sure that property is taxed for the previous year.

So the taxable value that's showing up on the assessors site is for the land only. Next year, it'll be $12,000,000 (or whatever) because there will be a 22,000 sq ft house on it, upping the value.

My taxes for my first year in this house were rock-bottom as well, because before my house was here this was 3/4 of an acre of grass. Taxable as such. Now that there's a 2000 sq ft house on it that they tax the bejiggers out of.

But while I'm in here...HOLY CRAP THAT'S A BIG F'N HOUSE.

Yeah, you can see that house from I-35. Any idea who owns it?

the county assessor's site should list the owner... -M

Says the Assessor, it's controlled by John Cresap, who, if I remember correctly, heads up Premium Beers.

Ah...So I'm paying for it.

I should TOTALLY crash at least one party there this year.

The property taxes you pay this year are actually for the previous year, so the property taxes you pay by Dec 31st 2007are the taxes for the property Jan-Dec 2006.
