Sprint Nextel to add 150 jobs at OKC call center

October 18, 2007

OKLAHOMA CITY – Sprint Nextel Inc. officials said they’ve spent $11.4 million on network expansions in the state this year and will beef up their investment even more.

They indicated they will add 150 jobs by January at their local call center. Officials said the northwest Oklahoma City office already employs 700 customer service representatives and will have a job fair today from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the 8585 Silver Crossing center. Other job fairs will be scheduled if needed, officials added, and the company also is taking applications online at Call Center Jobs at SPRINT (http://www.sprint.com/callcenterjobs).

The announcement came out of the Overland Park, Kan., operational headquarters. Sprint is based in Reston, Va.The money Sprint has invested in Oklahoma this year has been used for network upgrades, expansion and additional cell sites. The company said it spent $29 million on the Sprint and Nextel networks in the state last year.

Craig Sherry, director of Sprint Nextel’s Oklahoma City office, said the expansion is designed to improve customer services. Sprint reportedly had technical and customer service problems after it acquired Nextel Communications Inc. in 2005. Last summer it reportedly canceled contracts of nearly 1,000 customers, who according to the company made a high amount of calls to customer service. Officials said many of those were permitted to rejoin the network.
