SW 54th Street Widening Project to Begin Wednesday
The project to widen SW 54th Street between S Portland Avenue and S MacArthur Boulevard will begin Wednesday, May 30. SW 54th will be widened from two to four lanes between Portland and MacArthur. New bridges on S Meridian Avenue across SW 54th Street will also be built.
During the project, travelers to Will Rogers World Airport and surrounding businesses should use Airport Road and Meridian Avenue. SW 54th will be open only to local traffic, and at times will be completely closed. The traveling public is asked to follow posted detours.
The project is expected to continue until the end of July 2008.
This is a joint project of the City and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. The total project cost is $7,833,633.14, and the City’s contribution is $2,346,536.16. The City’s portion is from the 2000 General Obligation Bond Issue. The contractor for the project is Schwarz Paving Co., Inc.
