Until I got a bunch of pics from Norman Thompson (who supplied all the Springlake pics in my Springlake blog post), a relative of Leo Sanders, I'd never heard of Leo Sanders ... but after researching the Oklahoman's archives, I now know that I should have!

In a nutshell, Leo "Cyclone" Sanders was deeply involved in many construction (sometimes demolition) projects in the late 1920s through the 1950s, but mostly during the 1930s decade, largely in foundation work.

Mr. Sanders' home was located at 631 NE 17th. His obituary in the December 23, 1980, Oklahoman says


Among his many engineering and building accomplishments, he will be remembered for his work during the early years of downtown Oklahoma City and buildings such as the YWCA, Post Office, Montgomery Wards, Ramsey Tower, Skirvin Tower and tunnel to the Skirvin Hotel.
