Exclamation HELP Request -

We got all of our goodies replaced from the surge of lightening.

We replaced the Router with a Wireless Router. Upgraded from the old one (NEW: Belkin Wireless G - Broadband Router Model WRT54 G)

We lost the 2Wire Wireless Modem that we got with SBC.

I had a SpeedStream 5100 Ethernet ADSL Modem on hand, and with SBC , via phone, we got it to hook in to our system.

We are currently utilizing 4 high-powered systems at any given time, on all of this. (one of which is a wireless laptop)

Speed on the internet connection relates that it is: 100.0 mbps

PROBLEM: The Modem - Router keeps dropping the connection. We continuously have to reset the Router and it instantly picks back up. We are not being disconnected from the internet, just when a page refuses to load, we have to reset the Router and it picks right back up.

Responses?

That model # sounds like a Linksys router, not a Belkin. Not much help, I know.

Are all the PCs connected via wireless? If not, does it do the same thing with the wire-connected PC(s)?

Assuming this really is a Linksys, go to the Linksys setup website (192.168.1.1), then go to basic setup, Internet Connection. Change it to PPPOE (if it isn't already there) and then select 'keep alive'. Save it.

Hope this advice helps. If not, you get what you paid for it.

All 4 do it. hahaha I said "do it" ......all 4 crash.

I will do what you advised and check it out.

If you're constantly dropping lock on your outbound connection, I'd at least be wary of a signal strength problem downstream.

A couple of years ago, I was having crazy dropouts and disconnects on my cable modem, and (omitting tons of intermediate diagnosis steps) when I finally got in touch with someone who knew what they were talking about, the first thing he told me was my upstream signal was almost too low to detect. As the modem was connected to a known-good cable that had worked flawlessly to that point, he suggested (but did not insist) the modem might be failing. I picked up a new one that night, and that solved the problem.

No guarantees that's your problem, of course, but its at least something to consider.

Smile Re: HELP Request -

I have a son that is a computer geek and it is his responsibility to keep the computers up and running around here. I had just bought him a new system that he got to build.

After I posted this on here and gave him the advice, he got to work and fixed the issue.

It was dropping signals 4 and 5 times a day and since, none.

I accused him of "stealing all of my power" (he is a gamer and has all the mean stuff) and he tried what was suggested and then he dug deeper. He went on a forum with the issue and they got it resolved, but not before he told me that another kid had said his father accused him of the same thing. hahahahahaha

POWER TO THE PARENTS!!!

He connects to my system with at least a 100 foot of cable that goes from my house to his RV.

He laughs and says....just give me time.....he thought that we had possibly gotten a defective router. BUT he failed to do anything about the issue. Until I had to do the MOM THING.

So...I told him that I would just begin UNHOOKING things, first, his computer, then I would find the problem. .........

He had it resolved in about 30 minutes!

SeveralMany THANKS for all the help and advice! OKCTALKROCKS!

Sounds like a firmware issue. Download the latest for your WRT-54G and flash it up.

I had some issue, and I chose to load a Linux build instead. DD-WRT is what I used, and it is terrific. All issues went away, and the firewall feature is better than the one that comes with the Linksys.

LOL..............porn dialers might be too normal............

He didn't figure it out for himself, he got it off a forum and fine-tuned it for our stuff, he just wants to act all educated 'n all. Like it is a biggo secret and it is his secret formula.

He'll come around and spill his guts....eventually. I can hold out forever.
