My wife and I went to the annual Braums Ice Cream Festival in Tuttle, OK, for the 4th of July. We've been to many Oklahoma festivals in the past and seen great craft shows, and had a good time! We'd have to say that the Rush Springs Watermelon Festival is by far one of the better festivals in the state.
This year for the 4th we decided to go to Tuttle for the Ice Cream Festival. Since it was sponsored by Braums, we were expecting a lot. We figured it would be at least as nice as the Rush Springs Watermelon Festival.....afterall, this one had a huge sponsor: Braums. Needless to say, we were extremely disappointed. The festival was in a run down park, with only a few craft tables...and at the few craft tables they had they were selling local junk. Other than that, they had a small table set up where they were selling Braums ice cream scoops for $1 each. Other than that, it was a complete waste of drive. I felt that the festival was a disappointment not only for us, but for the state and Braums. If I were Braums, I woldn't want my name attached to that festival. Braums could do more, considering the size of company they are. |

I'm glad you posted that. My family and I attend quite a few festivals. Sometimes as visitors while other times I set up as a vendor.
Even though it's close, we've yet to make it to the Braums Ice Cream Festival. |

By the way, since you've been to several festivals, what are some of the better ones? |

My favorites are the International Festival held in Lawton (September) and the Cherokee National Holiday in Tahlaquah (Labor Day week end).
The Lawton event is right behind the public library. They have a decent selection of food vendors and all day entertainment. The one in Tahlequah is city wide. If you ever go to that, be sure to check out the musuem, the play and the village. Another good one is the Watonga Cheese Festival (October). Part of it is inside, part of outside. You can tour the cheese factory, plus they have quite a few vendors. Inside one the buildings, they have free cheese samples. There's the Rattlesnake Festival in Apache. That's held in April. If you're brave enough (I'm not), you can dine on rattlesnake there. There's also Arts Festival Oklahoma at OCCC (Labor Day week end). It doesn't compare to the arts festival in downtown OKC but it can still be fun . The Pepperfest in Blanchard used to be a really nice event but it's gone down in the last few years. If you like history, you might enjoy Tombstone Tales a Fort Reno in El Reno (Sept). It's not a festival but it's an entertaining way to spend a day. I keep try to make it to a few of the wine festivals. We went to one in Slaughtervile the first year they had it. There wasn't much going on then but hopefully it's improved. I'll try to think of others we've attened. |
