Default UCO Sweeps LSC Awards

UCO Sweeps LSC Awards

RICHARDSON, Texas (Sept. 26) - Central Oklahoma swept player of the week honors for the Lone Star Conference North Division, the league office announced Sunday.

Quarterback Justin Allgood took the offensive award, free safety Fred Shaw the defense honor and A.J. Haglund special teams recognition after UCO's big 42-17 win over two-time defending North Division champion Tarleton State.

Allgood hit 22-of-34 passes for 338 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first player in school history to have back-to-back 300-yard passing games with the fifth-best single-game performance at UCO.

He was 11-of-15 for 199 yards and two TDs in the second half as UCO expanded a 16-14 lead to the final margin.

Shaw had 10 tackles (six solo) with an assisted tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a school-, LSC- and Division II-tying 100-yard interception return that sealed UCO's win.

The unbeaten and No. 7-ranked Bronchos (5-0) go to Southwestern Oklahoma for another North Division contest at 2 p.m. Saturday.

This is great news. I'm glad to see the UCO football team reviving the winning glory! I hope Edmond backs them like they did a few years ago. Unfortnately getting support from Edmond merchants is a little harder than in a college town like Stillwater or Norman. I hope that changes as UCO grows.

The thing is that in large part, UCO has shot themselves in the foot when it comes to merchandise sales. As you know, the bookstore in the University Center is owned by Barnes & Noble. UCO sold merchandise rights to B&N. This means that Wal-Mart, etc. won't carry UCO merchandise. I recently bought a UCO hat at a game -- the thing was $24.00! Similar merchandise can be picked up with OU and OSU logos for around $7.00.

I wish UCO was thinking bigger when they did that.

Guess not though.

I wish the same thing. Unfortunately the bookstore doesn't offer that large of a selection either. UCO could've made a lot more money if they would've opened up the field a little bit and allowed more people to sell UCO merchandise.

I hope whenever the current deal expires, UCO decides to start marketing itself in more places. I know for a fact that they've already missed out the local Wal-Marts carrying UCO merchandise. Promoting their image like that is what they need if they truly want to go to D-I.

Have you seen the plans for the new stadium? They're wanting to expand it to around a 24000 seater with upper decks.
