For all you UCO alums, if you get a chance, revisit your old school. It's no longer "Commuter State Unviersity" - I remember while attending CSU (now UCO) how much I wished it had more of a community feel to it - and on a recent visit, I was suprised by how much it has improved. And that includes its sports programs - especially football

Thanks Midtowner. I'll try to make it! I'm looking forward to returning to UCO to see a football game!
By the way, downtownguy, CSU must've really been a commuter school back in the day. I graduated in 2002, and even then it still seemed to be predominately a commuter school. And that was even with the new apartments built out bakc. I suppose there's probably more stuff to do on campus now than there used to be back in the days of CSU, but it's still pretty much Commuter University. Nothing like OU, that's for sure. I muse say though.....Governor Nigh was the best thing that ever happened to that university. During his reign as king of UCO, the campus really grew. They expanded the Student Center, built a new education building, doubled the size of the library, doubled the size of the science building adding on a a new state of the art lab building, and putting together a comprehensive campus-wide beautifucation program. Roger Webb has only continued that tradition of growth, building a new fitness center (at my expense and other students of course....we paid for it through a special fee), building the new University Commons Apartments and Suites, etc. |

I like Webb a lot. He's got a very ambitious staff (I was always having to interview them when I worked at channel 22). They really want to grow the university. Do not be surprised if in 10 years, UCO has over 20,000 students and is a Division I school.
They're almost at 16,000 right now, so that's not pie in the sky at all. There's still plenty of land to grow on campus and they're aquiring land across 2nd street. My guess is that they're going to be building bridges/tunnels over 2nd street and expand into the Fink Park area over there that I think is underdeveloped. I believe they've already purchased the hotel across the street for additional classroom or dorm space. People used to go to UCO just to get a degree and really didn't give the place a 2nd thought afterwards. Now, I'm proud to be a UCO alum -- and I think a lot of folks are. Remember: Homecoming, October 16th, 6PM. |

Amen Midtowner I'm always glad to hear about the great news at UCO. I know Webb will get the job done. And yeah, UCO now owns the Ramada Hotel. I wouldn't be surprised if they convert it to dorm space. Afterall, they leveled East Hall, and moved the guys to Murdaugh Hall. They could probably use the extra space....maybe make the Ramada the upper classman dorm!

Possible. They also purchased that vet clinic. I think the new forensics center is going to go over there. It's being built with a combination of school, federal and state funds. It will actually include FBI and OSBI facilities.
In 10 years, I think UCO will be a comprehensive university. This state can truly support 3 large public universities. |

UCO defeated SWOSU handily.
This Saturday is the LSC Conference game of the year -- #6 UCO vs. #3 Texas A&M Kingsville. If UCO can limit the big plays I think it's got a very good chance to come out of this one undefeated. We'll probably see TAMUK in the playoffs as well. |
