Looks like the Montreal Expos might be moving to Washington, DC, in the near future. With attendance close to what the Redhawks have been producing, it's no surprise the Expos are leaving Montreal. But I tend to question the move to DC. Didn't DC used to have an MLB team?? The Washington Senators? They couldn't survive the competition of the nearby Baltimore Orioles.
I supposed DC would be better than Montreal though. DC supports the Redskins in the NFL, with the Ravens nearby. -------- "Angelos doesn't want next-door competition ESPN Major League Baseball may be ready for the Expos to move to Washington, D.C., but Orioles owner Peter Angelos is not. The Baltimore franchise will not be on board for relocation plans, the Washington Post reports in Thursday's editions. The league's relocation committee, of which Angelos is a member, meets Thursday in Milwaukee. Informal talks about compensating the Orioles for competition have made no headway, a source familiar with the discussions told the Post. "What is happening is that Major League Baseball is talking to [Angelos] about trying to find some financial way to help the Baltimore Orioles through this, and he is saying 'no.' He is saying, 'Hell no,' " the official told the newspaper. "He does not want a franchise in Washington." Angelos' options, should the league decide to move the Expos next door, include suing, although legal experts told the Post that would be a difficult case to win. Meanwhile, Washington decided on Tuesday where to build a ballpark for the Expos if Major League Baseball moves the team to the nation's capital. The D.C. Sports and Entertainment Commission outlined its plans in a meeting with city government officials. An official involved in the process, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Associated Press that the commission settled on a location along the Anacostia River waterfront near M and South Capitol streets. Washington and Northern Virginia have been the leading locations since May to land the Expos, who were bought by the other 29 teams before the 2002 season." |

That's true mranderson, about how close some of these teams are. Up there in New England, Boston and NY aren't too far away either.
Anyways, I think a team in DC would do better than in Montreal.......and bringing nack the old Senators name would be cool! |

What a lot of people forget is basically what you just said, Patrick.
From New York City to Boston is only about 400 miles. There are several teams within that distance. Plus other areas of the country are just as concentraited. Did you know St. Louis use to have two teams? Here is a question. What was the name of the other team (other than the Cardinals) and where are they now? Hint. It ties with this discussion. |

Hmmmm. The other team was the St. Louis Browns. Both the Cardinals and the Browns played in the same park for the longest time.
This is an interesting statement from the site I've listed below: "After suffering from poor attendance for many years in competition with the stronger Cardinals, the Browns departed St. Louis after the 1953 season and became the Baltimore Orioles in 1954.
