USC is lucky the Pac-10 has been down the last few years.
It's kinda weird how they even jumped way up in the opinion polls after beating an Auburn team that was very averege that year! Now that I think about... maybe it was Carson Palmer that really put the Trojans back into the spotlight! They really haven't seen Washington at their best and Oregon too, I mean who the heck is Cal. And when are the Bruins going to be good again? I hope not this year!! I even remember Washington Sate being much more consistent the last few years! It wasn't long ago that USC was getting beat down in the Sega Sports Bowl in Nevada , by UTAH no less!! Oklahoma+Orange Bowl does not always = National Title (e.g.....Miami,Washington,Arkansas) Anyone that tells you USC is/was far better than Oklahoma, should go ask all the NFL coachs who had the better players. Any Fantasy players looking for cheap"impact" WR's, should take M.Bradley or if possible M.Clayton those guys are really really really good. ----Don't get ripped off by a ' Fat Jack ' ---- -------the Sports Sage---------------------- |

You're right. Their Pass defense was suspect ,but the defense and offense was loaded with really really good players. More than SC's team.
But the Fact remains.... They really smashed OU up ,....BAD. In that one game. And it's fact that USC and LSU in '03 won national titles playing almost in their back-yards! My real point in this whole thread was how fickle peoples thinking/current opinion can be skewed.... by one game. Oklahoma had a massive melt down...in large part to SC. But who can turn the ball over that many times and really have a chance? SC mad great catch after great catch! Where were those catches in the regular season? You telling me that UCLA was better than OU these last 2 years? Oregon State? Arizona? USC beat OU a lot worse than those teams. Anything can happen & sometimes does. After OU killed Texas the last few seasons...the next years game was supper tough! Another instance was in '02 when Washington State beat USC, but most all people in the nation thought USC was better. They got the invite to orange bowl and played and crushed Iowa... WOW...the very next year they billed SC and Auburn great....ranked preseason top 5 or 6....USC then won and then Auburn rattled off another 3 or 4 straight loses... Just saying peoples opinions change almost weekly. |

After todays lose against TCU, I'm thinking those guys had way too much pressure on them. WOW did they suck or what?! Again , turnovers turnovers turnovers. GOSH!!
That was the whole reason to play Paul Thompson!!! omg....Mr. Chuck Long had a horrible game plan!!! HIS MANAGMENT OF THE QB "ROTATION" WAS RIDICULUS! THERE WERE NO OPTIONS PLAYS...NO QB DRAWS....I MEAN HE SHOULD TAKE MOST OF THE BLAME FOR THAT AWFUL PERFORMANCE. WOW! THEY ALWAYS RUN TO THE RIGHT....PETERSON ALWAYS CUTS OFF TACKLE...CAUSE THE LINE SEEMS, INEPT AT BEST. IT'S HARD TO SEE THEM HAVING A WINNING SEASON , WITH PLAYERS PLAYING LIKE THAT !! IT CAN'T BE ALL CHUCKYS FAULT. |

OH, come now people!!! Gloryoskie!
Yes, the Pac 10 is a weak conference, and yes, the Big XII is one of the best. Yes, OU played a crummy game in the Bowl. But USC is by a pretty wide margin the best team in college football and has been the last three years. Oklahoma was an outstanding team, they've obviously fallen off a bit (although they'll prove to be better than the record indicates by season's end) but they weren't USC good...nobody was, and chances are nobody is this year, either. Of the teams I thought had a serious chance to knock them off, one's ALREADY lost (Michigan) I think you look at about 3 schools with a legitimate chance to stay in a game with USC. Texas, obviously, perhaps LSU although with all the uproar around that team (and a new coach) they'll have a hard time getting through the season unbeaten. |

Wow, OU is doing really well this year. How can you even say that USC is not a good team. The Big 12 is a weaker conference this year than the Pac-10. I still think it is a crock that OU went to the National Championship Game and wasn;t even it's Conference Champion, should be a prerequisite of some sort. |

The Conference Championship game is a made-for-TV event that shouldn't determine who does or doesn't go to the National Championship game. College football is about the only sport in which the whole season is just as important. In basketball, the champ isn't the team that was best all year, it's the team that was pretty good all year that gets hot at the end and wins 6 straight. That's one reason college football is so great (and a reason we do NOT need a "playoff")
Oklahoma's already out of the national title picture, so is Michigan. We're in the 4th, 5th week of the season and already games with MAJOR importance have been played. When OSU basketball loses in early November, we're mildly annoyed and then move on with it. It's not that big a deal. Pro Football? Hey, my Rams lost in week one to a hated rival and I was mad for a few days and forgot about it. It's a long season, and really all we have to do is win 9, heck maybe just 8 and win the division, THEN get hot and really turn it on. We're not playing great now, barely beat the Cards and Titans, two pretty bad teams. But that's OK, they're pulling it together, the games that REALLY matter don't start for another 8 or 9 weeks, and by then the line will have solidified, Barron will be a household name, and the Rams will be the hottest thing going and win another Super Bowl...and nobody will remember that they lost to the freakin' 49ers in September. |
