And what about those of us who don't enjoy basketball? I would love to see a football team here besides the college teams. I think it would be great for Oklahoma City!

I am just saying that we should take pro sports one step at a time. Let's first concentrate our efforts as a city on the NBA, because that seems to be the most likely. If the NBA comes through or if it doesn't the the city should go all in to get a minor league football team.
I am all for Okc and getting pro sports into our market, but the city should stay focused on one at a time. |

Why focus on just the NBA for now when you have another potential money making opportunity waiting in the wings? Why not pursue them both? Why limit the opportunities & put all the eggs in one basket? |

The city has EVERYTHING!!! to do with the decision making. Such as money for arenas, practice facitlities, offices, security, infrastructure, etc. Without approval from Okc there will be no team in Okc. Just as Okc rejected a basketball team from the USBA just a few months ago. Right now Okc is focused on letting the NBA Sonics situation play out. Once it does , in just a few more months we will know how it will play out, then the city can look at other options.
Like I said I am all for pro sports in Okc, but Okc will not pursue anything else until the NBA makes a decision. We will know the fate of the Sonics in a few more months, have patience. |

While you wait, I'll go make my reservations for tickets.

Will the UFL last? Probably not, but as far as football goes, why not?
I have always thought that the NFL could work here outside of the issues of expasion and proximity to Dallas, Denver, and Kansas City. If you give sports fans an option though, they would go to a few UFL games. I would. If you really think the Sports Animal would talk about it in depth though, you obviously don't listen to it.

As far as the OU argument, I believe that to be a big lame flaming load of poo of an opinion. Being from Detroit, there are plenty of fans and coverage in the media for both NFL and University of Michigan football, as Ann Arbor is not that much farther from the Detroit Metro as Norman is from OKC. That is only my opinion though.

With Mark Cuban and Boone Pickens involved this could become something...
Austin, Texas Current Arena Football League Birmingham, Alabama member of now defunct World Football/World Hockey Leagues Columbus, Ohio Current NHL Bluejackets/MLS Crew Las Vegas, Nevada member of now defunct XFL Los Angeles, California Numerous NFL teams Louisville, Kentucky member of now defunct American Basketball Association Memphis, Tennessee Current member NBA Grizzlies Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Hosted Hornets for two years post Katrina Orlando, Florida Currrent member NBA Magic Sacramento, California Current member NBA Kings San Antonio, Texas Current member NBA Spurs Raleigh or Durham, North Carolina Current member NHL Hurricanes These could be some pretty interesting markets with a team in New York/New Jersey, Dallas' Cotton Bowl or Fort Worth's TCU Carter Stadium and possibly a franchise in Little Rock, Arkansas. This is still "vaporware" as far as I know.
But it would be interesting to see an NFL-associated minor league. I don't think OKC is ready to support both the Sooners and an NFL team and an NBA team[b] (not to mention AAA baseball and AA hockey) -- but I think AAA football could work nicely. Especially if it were a place where you could watch your favorite college football players take it to the next level. The attendance would probably be surprisingly good, assuming the stadium is located in a logical place. Personally I'd like to see it put out on the west side of OKC near the Kilpatrick Turnpike & I-40, just because the traffic would be a lot more manageable. |

I could care less about the football issue at hand....but just want to make a comment about the CHL list of cities.
While they aren't 'premier' towns, most of those listed are misleading. Let's not mistake suburbs for small towns. Bossier City - SHREVEPORT Southaven MS - MEMPHIS North Richland Hills TX - FORT WORTH Youngstown OH Loveland CO - DENVER SUBURB Broomfield CO - DENVER SUBURB Oklahoma City OK Tulsa OK Wichita KS Austin TX Corpus Christi TX Laredo TX Rio Grande Valley TX Amarillo TX Prescott Valley AZ Rio Rancho NM - ALBUQUERQUE Odessa TX As for Prescott Valley, I spent some time in Prescott in December and thought it was a fantastic community with great fan support (5,000 average) for their hockey team. Better than some AHL squads. And I've seen AAA hockey in a lot of towns. |

Nixon 7: :I'm still clueless as to where an OKC team would play."
If the organization is big enough, they could petition to use Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium. There may not be as much opposition as we had when the Oklahoma Outlaws (USFL) we petitioning to use Owen Memorial Stadium back then. If not, there are plans to use Bricktown Ballpark year round for high school/college football games and possibly MLS soccer and expanding the ballpark to seat 22,000 to 25,000; that we allow us to bid on the men's college world series when it comes up. Some of the high school games would include the state playoffs and some key HS games moved to the site; college--Langston vs. Grambling/Southern or Prarie View could be played there. |

I think that's why they haven't acted on this idea. The ballpark is fan-friendly for baseball, it might lose something should they attempt to configurate it for football.
I would just build another stadium next to the Bricktown Ballpark specific for football/soccer similar to the 40,000-seat stadiums built in Las Vegas and Hartford. Las Vegas' Sam Boyd Stadium Sam Boyd Stadium Hartford's Rentshlder Field Stadium: Welcome to Rentschler Field Last edited by Laramie; 04-03-2008 at 01:32 PM. Reason: correct http |
