(11373) Comments for: Devon Energy Center (Devon Tower)
I was over at Freddie's Tires on Reno and May yesterday. Looking through the window at about 530pm was spectacular. The glass is highly reflective as we all know, and at dusk the glass was glowing orange/red. Very impressive, can't wait to see it fully completed.
I drive a route to work in NW OKC that gives me a nice vantage point of the tower's progress. As of today, the top of the elevator cores are equal to or just short (looking from 5-6 miles away) of the rooftop of the Oklahoma Tower (not including the mechanical housing).
At what height is the tower at now?
Your model of Devon Tower is exquisite! Is it possible for you to upload your model into the Google 3D Warehouse? The current models they have for the tower don't represent it well. I was going to try to make one myself, but I can see that yours is probably FAR better than what I can do. Lol! I would appreciate it greatly! It would also help me represent Oklahoma City better (I make various visionary versions of downtown OKC in SketchUp). Thanks!

Like I said, it's not as tall as the mechnical housing (the small rectangular object on top of the roof of the Oklahoma Tower), hence you can't see it from the north. Be calm, you will be able to see it within the next month..lol...and I would be more than happy to take a pic to prove my point to you ("smiling" since puting a semi colon, dash and parenthesis always doesn't post)...
Be Calm? mkay.... I checked it again this morning - the best view for comparison is from the overpass on 235 over 23rd. I agree that the pillars seem to be nearly touching the top of the Oklahoma Tower, but still has the Penthouse to go. Of course that doesn't count the floors being added in to the level that the pillars are, which will obviously take a few days.
The other thing to remember is that viewing it from the north, Oklahoma Tower will appear taller due to perspective and the distance in the foreground. So Devon would likely have to be a story or two taller than Oklahoma tower for you to clearly see it as taller as viewed from the north. Just some food for thought.
All of this of course could be easily settled from a shot taken from the west looking east.
235 and 23rd is more NNNNNNNNNNE of downtown. You exit off onto 23rd going southbound and you're on Broadway...which (line of sight) runs into the Cox Convention Center. The tower is just a few blocks to the west. Every once in a while News9 will do a live shot view of downtown during their newscasts and you can see the tower creeping around the side of the Oklahoma Tower. I think their cam is in the apartments.
If you look at the KSBI webcam, it looks like Devon is still a little shorter than the OK Tower.
Probably catch/pass it with two more floors:

BTW, there was talk about them picking up the per-floor pace, but that doesn't seem to be happening.
Looks like it is still taking about 8 days per level.
I'm not arguing dude. I'm anal retentive and I think I have a slight capacity for being OCD with a spill of ADD. Take no offense. It's just how I am...
Not arguing with ya Pete but it sure seems like they're less than 8 days a floor. I don't know. Maybe time is going by so fast because it's the end of the year. Maybe it's spending time with the girlfriend. Buuuuut, it seems like yesterday that they were pouring the columns for the floor they're wrapping up now and they're already pouring columns for the next level. Windows are going pretty fast too. I'll have to go back in the thread and see how many days were in between my 14th floor and 15th floor observations!
It was such a beautiful day today, I went ahead and did a December construction update. It's probably one of the last nice days of the year. Couldn't believe it was low 60s. I'll try and have the video up later tonight or into the morning. There's a lot to it.
By the way what floor in Oklahoma Tower is the construction cam? The light was shining into the windows of all the buildings and I tried to spot it on my video camera.
Anyone seen The skyline from MWC around Reno/Air Depot you can really see how The Devon Tower is impacting The skyline from this angle and other than The NW side of OKC I'd have to say this is my second favorite skyline view!

AWESOME!
ahhh.....behold, the wealth-creating power of free-enterprise!
How could I miss that? I check this thread everyday!
Uploading videos now.
In one shot I zoomed in on the top of First National. Noticed some green graffiti. Wonder if anyone else has spotted it.
Anyone going to do a time lapse video?
December construction video update. Enjoy!
Pt 1
Pt 2
First National graffiti is at 2:30 in Part 2.
Anyone help me spot the construction webcam in Oklahoma Tower? It's at 8:30 in Part 2.
By the way, Vimeo is having HD issues so the quality of all videos aren't what they should be. They're "working with their technicians to fix it."
As always, thanks for those incredible videos William! Saw tons of things you simply can't see on the webcams.
Looks like they've started on the auditorium (foreground):

Where's the construction cam?

Arent spires used in calculating building heights? This is for anyone who can answer it because The first National is 493'ft tall to The spire and 446'ft tall to The roof!In either case The FNC is currently OKC's second tallest! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_N...(Oklahoma_City) here is alist of OKC's tallest http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of..._Oklahoma_City
We are the original source, lol. Although, I might have posted one pic over there that I never did here. Hard to tell.
In regards to the graffiti, my coworker said it best... What's the point?? That's like getting a tattoo of a freckle on your body!
I didn't know the cam was that close to the west wall of the Oklahoma Tower. I figured it was set closer to the east side...
I think it's not far above Corporate Tower on the far east side. Didn't double check beforehand. I'll look closer next time.
Seems like they fixed the video quality issues.
I had a dream you were going to post one of these today, lol.
Oh well. I figured it was the cam because in the afternoon hours when the sun is low, you can see its reflection in the window and that trophy looks to be the same size. Who knows. Like I said, I figured the cam to be more east than west since it lines up pretty good with the west face of the building (according to Google Maps) that houses IKON Office Solutions.
^^Sweet pic!Thanx 4 postin it!
Dulahey, Please take a picture in the exact same spot when the tower is finished!
That's a nice morning shot.
I can not tell you everything but it will be very exciting and highly visible when done. The design team had some brilliant ideas for this lighting and when fully operational i suspect you all will cheer!
I will try to take pictures from that spot more frequently. My last one was over a month ago. I actually took another one this morning since it was so cloudy. It was a bit darker than normal.
But I wanted to post that this morning as I was heading north on I-35 onto I-235 the entire bottom 5 or 6 floors of glass were lit up red on the SE side of the tower. For being about a mile away it looked pretty nifty and was very bright. When the whole tower is lit, it's going to be VERY bright.
