The Gary England that died was a 3M sales rep in the auto body repair products division. From about 1970 to the early 2000s he was a well known and respected figure in the Oklahoma body shop biz. Still a legend for the older people still in the biz.
His oldest (I think) son, Ty England, was one of Garth Brooks’ earliest side men when they started in Stillwater, while attending OSU. Stayed with Brooks into the early part of the “superstar” period. Had a couple solo albums and minor hits.
RIP Gary England, you were the best!
RIP Max Nichols. Age 90. Those of us who knew Max were always amazed at his breadth of knowledge about… well … everything. A great journalist whose time at the Journal-Record will especially be remembered fondly.. He is a member of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame, as well as the Oklahoma Historians HOF. Here is his obit at The Oklahoman and a couple more links of interest.
