Thread: Arby's classic cowboy hat sign on NW 39th

Default Arby's classic cowboy hat sign on NW 39th

They have recently renovated the restaurant and did away with the huge cowboy hat sign.

I wish they would've kept it - especially with it being right on RT 66.

Yeah there was a bit of a stir on social media a few weeks ago. Very few classic Rt 66 signs left. Really hope someone is collecting them for a museum.

Or repurposed at least. I know the Route 66 bowl sign ended up in Chandler.

Too expensive to operate for a company that has no interest in history or anything except making a profit, so it came down. The Lost Ogle has an article about it, but that about sums it up. One of TLO's comments had this link in it, which is interesting:

One of the original Arby's is in tact along with the original Arby's signs in Wichita Falls at I-44 and 5th St. As a kid driving from west Texas to our family farm in northern Okla, we stopped here very frequently. The building is new, but the original sign is still operational today.

Based on what I've heard, it would cost thousands of dollars to move the sign in a mostly intact state. I assume they dismantled it and weren't too picky about it.
