Thread: Press Release on Supreme Court Decision

Default Press Release on Supreme Court Decision

We’re disappointed that the Oklahoma Supreme Court has chosen not to take Original Jurisdiction and right the grievous wrong done when Mr. Hunt was removed from the ballot for Ward Five of the Oklahoma City Council by the Oklahoma County Election Board. We are left with the troubling question of what recourse a citizen may have when a municipality acts in direct violation of both state law and its own charter to deny a class of citizens the right to stand for election to their local government. It appears that a similarly situated candidate may have to marshal the resources to challenge the city directly on this question. Regardless of what may happen then, today a candidate who was fully qualified under the law has been forced from the ballot, and that strikes at one of the most fundamental principles of American government.

    The royal "we"?

I've read the briefs. Your argument was that you were basically confused on the residency requirements adopted by the City. The Board was right to strike your name from the ballot. You have to meet residency requirements to run. You, even by your own admission, didn't.
