Default General Weather Discussion - April 2018

Miserable weather today and tonight. Maybe some light freezing drizzle overnight.

We will warm up back into the 50s and 60s, but with the wind it will feel cold. Big storm comes in next weekend, right now it looks like it won't really get cranking until it is leaving Oklahoma. Right now it looks like eastern OK is the best shot (surprise) at getting any rain. Winter storm solutions are pretty much gone for the state and those impacts will be in KS and MO.

30mph north winds are about to sweep through C OK. Lows for Wednesday morning will be in the upper 20s.

Snapshot of Friday into Saturday. Once again, drought rules the western half of the state and precipitation chances are off to the east.

Snow chances increasing for Saturday morning the last couple model runs. Again, amounts will be basically zero accumulation - but it will be neat to see any meaningful snow falling since this winter was basically dry as a bone.

This is behind the front on the backside of the system for early Saturday:

It's funny, this will likely be the best chance @ snow in C OK this entire winter. Light snow with maybe some pockets of moderate snow in the very early mornings tomorrow:

Slight chance of storms Friday over central and eastern OK. Not much moisture to work with as it stands right now but something to watch this week.

GFS still showing storm activity over central and southern OK on Friday with more organized chances further east. Severe weather doesn't appear very likely.

Fire danger will be extreme for the next like 6 days, yes that's right. 6 straight days of strong winds. Welcome to Oklahoma in Spring.

We will be warm until early Saturday when the storm system comes through and strong north winds will slam cold air into the state for the weekend. Rain chances are very low for C OK. Eastern OK per usual will likely have a shot @ storms.

Saturday will be highs in the low 50s, but the wind will make it feel like it is in the 30s.

Warming back to 60s for Sunday and Monday. Then back to 70s and 80s by Wednesday.

Now forecasting "historic" levels of fire weather threat for parts of the state on Friday -- not something we see very often.

Yes, this is because we will be going from gusty south winds - flipping to gusty north winds late. Makes fire combat very dangerous and unpredictable.

For reference of how dry it is in Western Oklahoma. Many places have had an inch or less of rain the last HALF YEAR!

So will this weekend be winter's last hurrah?

Anon, thank you for posting about the PDS tornado watch in AR. I've got a dear friend there who may or may not be aware. I'm texting her about it now.

No problem. Potential for multiple rounds of tornado capable storms in that area heading into tonight. Areas over there have been getting tons of rain and the environment is ripe for severe storms.

Whew, glad to see the sun out. No storms for OKC! Hopefully this was the last severe scare of the year once the wind and cold passes.

We still have half of April, all of May and June, so I seriously doubt it's the last one of the year, the tornado/t-storm/hail season's just getting started...

Crazy amounts of smoke in OKC right now from the fires in Western OK. Enough smoke that I can smell it from inside my apartment.
