Property Near SE 44th and Hiwassee

This concerns a place in the area that's part Mid-Del, part Choctaw, part OKC. There's a large acreage (40 or so) starting at Hiwassee and going west on the south side of SE 44th. We lived near there for 18 years before moving out of state for awhile. Almost every time we drove by that place we'd wonder about the story...an old rock house built into the hillside, with outbuildings and big ponds. We never made an effort to find out about it. Now we're back, living nearby again, and we want to know. Fish hatchery? Old farm? Descendants of the original homesteaders? Thanks.

The address is 12500 SE 44th in Choctaw.

It's been owned by the Shaffner family for quite some time.

From aerials, it very much looks like a fish hatchery.

The moment I saw the aerial image my mind instantly snapped back to my friend Paul's place back in Poteau. His pop raised minnows. Between that and his mama's gig at a bottle store, they made a right decent living. I helped Paul, his pop and a worker from time to time when Paul and I were late elementary and junior high. Well, we were probably more bother than help, but Mr. B. kept us in line. Messy work x infinity, but it was fun in its own weird way.
