    Default Walmart Express(New Walmart Concept)

    This seems pretty neat.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s first convenience store-sized Walmart Express opened in Gentry, AR and offers a peek at how the world's largest retailer plans to expand in big cities and small towns.

By throwing the word Express in there I am assuming there will be no more lines as well as outstanding customer service.......

Looks like their trying to compete with Walgreens, CVS, and to some degree Aldi. Makes you wonder why they just don't call it Walmart Pharmacy.

I can foresee one of these coming soon to the corner of Hefner and Rockwell, where the Shell Gas Station once was. Correct me if I am wrong...isn't there one over by Warr Acres Library...or is that a Neighborhood Walmart?

ID:	8527Attachment 8526 I was in Chicago last week and went to one. I don't know how long it was there but it seemed older and a little run down. It's about the size of a CVS/Walgreens (About half the size of a Neighborhood Market setup) and it was mostly grocery items. They had fresh fruit, veggies, and some meat. I didn't really look around too much but there was an aisle with socks, baby food, screwdrivers, basically just basic household items. I think there was also a pharmacy. There were 3 self-checkout lanes and I think 2 regular checkout lanes. Overall, it wasn't that great, there were actually bigger grocery stores (Jewel/Osco, Trader Joe's, and Whole Foods) within a mile or so of the WalMart Express and they were much, much bigger and nicer.

    That is a Neighborhood Market.

I don't despise Wal-Mart as much as people on this board might think. I just dislike that they are a near monopoly in OKC when it comes to groceries (yes I know there are a few alternatives like Crest and Uptown). Over the past two years though I've come to be used to it and it doesn't bother me as bad as it did when I first moved here.

I think Dollar General is their main concern, at least so we've been told in the grocers association on info we have about them.

That is my understanding as well. They are putting one in Luther on route 66, on the old football field, right around the corner from Dollar General. They are now targeting smaller towns than they did in the past.

Thank ya ljbab728...I "knew" I saw something over there a few months back.

So maybe this is the concept to throw to get WalMart into towns that aren't large enough to support a full store? Do they even build non-super-centers these days? And the Neighborhood Market isn't really a "stuff" place, rather just food. So off in bumble doo, maybe this is the TG&Y. I mean heck, this is how WalMart started after all? It's really Wally world coming full circle. I'd agree that it appears more to compete with the "dollar" store types out there.

I haven't been in a Family Dollar before, but the Dollar Trees I've been in have always been much cleaner than Dollar General. For some reason, DG just always seems to feel dirty. Hopefully, this concept will be better kept than some of those competitors.

Here's a video I found on Youtube of the one I went to in Chicago, just to get an idea of its small size.

Old style, non-Supercenter Wal-Marts still exist in other parts of the country. Charlotte has a few. These stores really don't look that bad. I hope they are well-staffed. That's my number-one complaint with Wal-Mart, specifically the ones in OKC. Why is there always only a couple of registers open at peak rush hour?

They're gonna have to be very aggressive if they're wanting to keep up with Dollar General.
On a purely anecdotal basis, Dollar General is struggling to reduce the grocery deserts.
Dollar General has recently put three new stores in my somewhat rural neighborhood.
    1) at 89th and Harrah Road,
    2) at 149th ( / Stella / 19th St) and Anderson Road, and
    3) in Bethel near Shawnee Lakes.

Agreed... This is one of the articles I read about it a while back.
