Anybody know what the story is with the second story on Stubbeman Village? It always seemed like the weirdest design. I couldn't ever figure out if it was mechanical stuff up there or if it was office space.
Yes, it was a twin movie theater. In the 80s it turned into a series of clubs; notably Rome. Typically dancing on one side and live music on the other. I saw quite a few great shows there. Nine Inch Nails, Book of Love, Smithereens, Echo and the Bunnymen, local faves like Nixons, Flaming Lips, Chainsaw Kittens, many others. Lots of great memories there. I'll be pouring one out for the old girl.
my oldest brother was at ou from '83 to '87 and i remember him saying that stubbeman would show rocky horror picture show pretty regularly.
The theaters were called the Satellite Twin and were dead-center in the complex:
I remember Mr Bills fondly.
As you can see, the two north towers are now completely down. Hard to see here but there isn't much left of the SW tower. (This view is dead west.)
You can also see how they are separating the metal from the crushed concrete.
Stubbeman is still standing but all the windows are out and it's effectively gutted.
Almost knocked them all down in a month. Pretty impressive.
Moving fast now. Note Stubbeman in the background is quickly being razed.
The architect of that baptist student union building in the top left sure made some interesting choices...
Pete, love the drone shots. Look forward to future softball stadium updates
Down to the nubs of the two south towers.
Aaaaaaaand it's gone. Lots of fun times in that building.
It is sad to see it gone but honestly, an much improved dorm is much needed
1 "X" down, two to go.
