Would be cool if someone can snap a photo of Devon Tower with "Happy New Year" lit up on the side of the building.

Much obliged guys. My thought was all about closeness versus all the distant pictures we see. I uploaded it to flickr so I'll see if I get any "likes" there.

Went up to the 50th floor today, tagging along with a friend who is planning to hold his wedding in the conference rooms above Vast. Here are some pics, I hope you enjoy.

Immediately after exiting the elevator, this is what you see.

Aaaaaaand some views of outside. (I may have gotten a bit camera-happy)
I have never had a fear of heights, but it took me a second to adjust to standing close to these windows. I got a little bit of vertigo, but after a minute or so I was fine.

Finally, I grabbed a detail pic of some of the structure outside the window. I would not like to be the guy who has to repair or replace one of these cables if they ever go bad.

Really cool pics!! Thanks for posting. It is kind of odd to see a chunk of the Crosstown Boulevard sitting there in the distance.

Anyone have any idea why the LEDs have been off since the last playoff game?

I seem to remember the same thing last year. It was a decent while before they were on again consistently.

i haven't seen those lights on in what seems like forever. The bldg looks so cool when its all lit up, as does the skyline in general.

However seeing it sitting there you realize exactly how easy it would be to restore the grid and connect that piece of crosstown to existing grid. I hope that is what happens

An interesting article by Richard Mize about the thought process in building this tower.

    http://www.oklahoman.com/article/4948952?embargo=1

An image of Devon Tower flashed among the slides of distinguished Hines projects.

“If you’re not from Oklahoma City, you might wonder why you would build this building in Oklahoma City,” said C. Hastings “Hasty” Johnson, vice chairman of Houston-based Hines, developer and now facility manager of the 1.8-million-square-foot, 50-story skyscraper and Devon Energy Center.

It was “to make Devon more appealing to top geologists,” he said. Devon brass told Hines “if that results in one meaningful find, it’ll pay for a building like this,” Johnson said.

They just pulled a big building permit to do a big remodel on the 34th floor:

As another sign of Devon being out of space, they just leased 8,500 square feet on the 3rd floor of the old IRS building at 55 N. Robinson.

They also have a sizable chunk in Corporate Tower.

Maybe the Devon is going to be the builder of another tower at Main and Hudson?

sure wish they would have build the 925 ft version with 4 more floors (or better yet, made it 986 ft (8 more floors) so it could be a supertall).

Devon might be okc's only chance at a supertall, I wonder if they wish they'd built the additional floors?

As much as I love tall buildings, I am glad they didn't. Their building already sticks out among the rest in OKC. I prefer the aesthetics of a second building, which would help balance the skyline and help increase the density of the CBD. Maybe they will build a matching tower and put a bridge or two between them a la the Petronas Towers?

Is there somewhere that they could do that if they chose to?
