Okay. That's irrelevant because if they invested the money for those facades to improve their image, then they are obviously not that "cheap." At least they took the intiative to do so is what I'm saying.
I have been to Vegas many times, and this is not much different than the cheezy facades that Vegas casino's use. Let's don't kid ourselves. I think it looks good, especially for an Oklahoma indian casino.
Well winstar looks really nice compared to when i went last time about 4 years ago, my wife and i might try it, but we are not staying in there hotel its 149.00 dollars a night for a weekday!!!
The deal has been closed. Somewhere around 82 million. They plan on expanding, and building hotels.
great news, hope they add a lot of new stuff, is the race track going to go? i hope so maybe then we can get dolphins back at the zoo, that was a rumor reason why they couldnt have dolphins because of some germ horses carry, and the aquatic center was dead wind of remington
We have seen a few of the burnt out variety, and was pleasantly surprised. We saw Vicki Lawrence (Momma's Family) and Wayne Newton (Mr. Las Vegas) at The Grand in Shawnee.
Vicki was a blast. Half of her show was in the role of "Momma". If you can imagine a rated R Momma!
You are right, the theater/performing arts adds a lot to the casino.
They are going to be very limited in what they can add. The casino can't be expanded and they can't add table games. All against the rules.
They own the property, they can't change the track/casino without changing the state laws and the compact between the tribes and the state regarding gambling. The land is not in reserve so state law applies.
And it's highly unlikely the land could be placed in trust, it's outside the Chickasaws national area.
Let's see now.... the racinos were placed at a disadvantage at the insistance of competing tribes. Now the tribes own the racinos. Does anyone doubt the compact will change now?
The state expand gaming? Anyone think that's going to happen?
And there are other tribes that would need to agree, they would need something too.
I think it's the three biggest tribes that own the racinos now, right? I'm not saying it's inevitable. But I'm not convinced it's impossible either.
Jesseda, I covered the dolphin deal and there was a whole lot more to that than the horse track. A national protest group argued the supplier of the dolphins being was basically the same as a puppy mill
The Cherokees and the Chickasaws both own racetracks for sure. That's the two big ones as far as gaming goes. It would likely pass.
And are you sure that they can't expand the casino? Are they limited on the number of slots? If nothing else, just making the casino nicer on the level of Riverwind and Hard Rock, and adding a hotel will be a major improvement to the overall experience.
Don't Edmond My Downtown
Here's where the cap currently stands: the Chickasaws can, and will, upgrade the existing games. They can also add 50 more come Jan. 1 as allowed by the compact. But that's it unless the tribes seek to reverse the lower limits on gaming they themselves imposed during negotiation of the compact.
The compact will change. There is little to no reason for any other outcome.
My only question is whether it will change in 2010 or 2011, after the next election cycle.
They'll promise some more money to the schools, and the compact will change. It is even possible (outside shot requiring city leaders and others to cooperate) that the land could be deeded into trust.
I think it'll be a decent deal. Lots of new jobs, an expanded tax base, etc.
My hope is that any new facilities are not eyesores.
I remember going to Remington Park before the casino was put in, and I also remember some people were saying the attendance was down due to OTB at local casinos. Some casinos would not air Remington Park on their OTB sites.
Steve, I am not sure what you meant by "the racinos were placed at a disadvantage at the insistance of competing tribes"?
I went to the race track in CA quite a bit and I always felt Remington needed some serious revamping to draw the attendance up long before they added the casino.
The disadvantage I'm referring to is the matter of the number of slot machines allowed at Indian casinos vs racinos and the allowance of blackjack at the Indian casinos but not the racinos per the compact. Sorry, I should have been more specific....
sorry steve about that i didnt know it was more to it, to bad they cant get a good supplier or something, that was one of the best things at the zoo, i miss the show and i wish my kids had a chance to experience it like i did.
Lets hope that they can have full blown gambling soon. This would be a good option for many of us that live in NW OKC/Edmond since we now have a pretty long drive to table games. I can envision one of the largest casinos in OK right here at Remington someday soon.Big poker tournaments and 1st class entertainment.
The Dallas Business Journal is reporting the Chickasaws are involved in the purchase of Lone Star Park in the Dallas area as well. Here's the link.
Lone Star Park may be acquired soon - Dallas Business Journal:
I don't know about getting the land back, but the money will eventually make it's way to the tribal programs... I hope.
It's a double edged sword, if you ask me. There has already been some tribes who did not benefit from the type of shady characters who came to "help" them run the casinos.
The Chickasaw's, like the Citizen Pottawatomie are becoming pretty business savy.
It's important to remember that the Chickasaws did not purchase the land from Magna. The land is leased from the zoo. Magna simply purchased the business and the lease. I am no expert on the subject, but I would imagine that would further complicate the ability to add things like table games.
