Thread: Bars/restaurants that are sorely missed

  1. #1

Default Bars/restaurants that are sorely missed

I thought I would open up a thread about bars and restaurants that have gone by the wayside through the years.

Some of my favorite bars that have disappeared through the years.

    Boars Head
    Split T

Anyone else have some old watering holes or restaurants they miss?

    Sleepy Hollow. The good one.

    1. Leslie's Painted Desert - it had a terrific atmosphere, great food, and an eclectic crowd. PLUS, it was within walking distance of our house!

    2. El Rancho Sanchez mexican restaurant - I STILL dream about their enchiladas! It was right next to the Park Terrace Theatre southside. I believe one of the Chelino's locations is now in their place.

    3. Ding Ho - Also southside, in the old Grant Square Shopping Center. I ate my first Chinese food there. NO ONE EVER made better eggrolls

    The Bowery, OKC
Town Tavern, Norman (the greatest travesty in Oklahoma history that that closed); F Louie's (and I do like Bob Stoops) but their food and atmosphere are the suck.

Tapwerks on Western. I used to love going to that place and now I don't want to pay $5 to park to go to the one in BT.

I miss the Boars Head too. Wasn't that in French Market? I'm kind of nastolgic for old theaters and I liked how they used the movie screens in the bar. Why did it close down?

Also, I can't believe Tapwerks on Western closed. I loved that place before I moved to Houston, the crappiest city on the planet.

Of course the place I miss the most is Laredos. Has the new one opened yet?

Yeah, there was so many hotties in there. Unfortunately it seemed like their AC never worked well enough, it was brutally hot in the summertime in that place.

I believe they were forced out in favor of Burlington's Coat factory.

I remember Joker's Comedy Club. it was around for years and i remember it was in 3 different locations, and in brick town at one time.

they were really cool . saw a few cool comedians there, Gallagher, and that
guy Jeff Dunlap with that old man puppet

last time i went there they were on 56th and may.

In a place where a club called The Plum was at also at one time.

I think there was a club inthe same place called The Boar's Head .

    Maria's Kitchen - NW Expressway

its just closed a few weeks ago and was only open for ~3 months but it was some of the best Mexican food I have had anywhere

I probably ate there 30 times in the 3 months or so it was open

No doubt...right after they had remodeled to add bathrooms, it went under. Suck.

I would like to add the Samurai Samurai SAMURAI!

I remeber Elrancho sanchez, I think the part of the building they were in is the part that burned out and has yet to be rebuilt. I also remember Ding Ho in Grant Square shopping center, it was the traditional chinease restaurant with the dim lighting and the colorfull lanterns hanging from the ceiling, those kind of chinease restaurants are rare now. I also remember Shakey's Pizza on South Western just north of 59th Street, it is an Autozone now but the sign and the bricks around the base of the Auto Zone sign are original to Shakey's Pizza sign. They had the pizza parlor feel with the stained glass windows and everything you dont see those anymore either. Anyone remember Arthur Treatures Fish and Chips? It was north of 59th also Next to the Church that was torn down it was in the Arby's next to the church which the Arbys is torn down now too. Anyone remember Underwoods on SW 59th street? It was the all you can eat buffet place with the tall cowboy sign out front.

Eagle's Nest/Nik's at the top of the Founder's Tower, if only because of their cool rotating observation deck.

What the heck is gonna happen with that top level now that the rest of the building is hideously overpriced apts?

    Abe's Western Cafe - Why??????????????????????

Shotgun Sam's - I realize if I ate there now it wouldn't live up to my childhood memories. But that's all I have of the place.

Hollies on south Western. Picked up many hot women in that club for many memorable nights of carnal entertainment.

Where did Tapwerks use to be on Western?

The building down by Classen that was Purgatory for a while. It was demolished recently.

Before that it was a restaraunt. I really liked that place.
