Drove by the site yesterday and they have started demo. Looks like they had half the Bodyworks building down.

Can someone fill me in on why the Canopy is going here instead of in the parking lot in the middle of bricktown? I must have missed some betting war in the past that allowed it to move to this location...

The more central Bricktown location never nailed down the franchise agreements and Mazaheri & Co. swooped in and convinced them to come to their site (Bodyworks) instead.

$9.8MM building permit filed for this project.

    Should see construction starting soon.

What about the other hotels? And the condo? Is that still part of this project?

Those were always going to be later phases and I don't believe there is a specific time table.

I don't want to knock this project because it's impressive we are getting a Canopy and very exciting to see Bricktown move further east, but look at the design they went with in San Antonio... Our's looks incredibly bland now... Construction on their Canopy is supposed to start any day now.

As long as it's executed well, I'm okay with the design that they've proposed for here as compared to the one you showed in the pic. I don't like that design. Maybe because it looks like a game of Jenga about to topple over.

Pretty standard here honestly. Other cities get designs that impress, we usually get run of the mill.

I like our current design better as well. It fits in better than something contemporary like this.

Also, I know it will be, but that building just looks unsafe.

+1, that design looks like a chopped up Citizens Bank tower. I'll go with something that actually fits well in Bricktown in this instance.

Impress? I find that tower to be quite ugly.

Looks pretty gimmicky besides being ugly.

Build that here, and it would look like it's daring our earthquakes and tornados to come pick a fight.

We don't HAVE to have the earthquakes...

I will say regarding the above Canopy in SA, that is a city that is in a different league when it comes to hotels than other projects. I don't think other developments in SA are routinely higher quality than OKC, it just so happens to be a magnet city for tourism. Btw that's not a knock on SA, great city, the greatest just ask anyone...

History has plenty of examples of tragedies where people assumed something was safe because it was designed by engineers who are supposed to know this stuff.

Even if I liked the building (I dont) it would be a terrible fit for Bricktown.
