FWIW: the tinker number is only the direct tinker employees--military and civilian workers who are employed by the miltary. It doesn't count the number of contractors on base (that's about 300 from Boeing alone) or those who are directly affiliated with contractors working on contracts at tinker. This would account for the rest of boeing because Boeing doesn't manufacter anything in Oklahoma any longer. Add Lockhead, L3, Arinc, TRW, Lear, Northrup, Goodrich, UTI, SCIC, Wackenhut, Flight Safety, Sodexo, DRG, GE, and about a thousand mom and pop contractors and the number is probably double. IIRC, the Governor's various aerospace initiative's press put the number at 50K.
But, the military doesn't count when you are critisizing the cost or size of government. There's no relationship at all between the giant military machine we maintain and the overall size of government. None at all....
