No, this is for real.
Literally this seems...strange. I don't really see restaurants setting up that are offering steak and fetuses on their menu. LOL However, I'm wondering what the real motives behind this would be. Perhaps stem cell research is considered "consuming" if the end product is injected in a human. Not sure. On the surface if someone votes against it people are going to be like "OMG, You want to allow people to eat fetuses!" So it is one of those that would be passed regardless.

/edit: fixed the thread title to 1418 after finding the bill on www.oklegislature.gov
hmmm... interesting theory. i think you guys are on to something. the bill's short title is:
depending on the source, stem cell treatments could fall under a 'product that contains aborted human fetuses.'Originally Posted by oklegislature

This could have far-reaching consequences for the medical industry if interpreted by the wrong person.
Whiskey Tango Foxtrot??
The majority of voters, a vast majority at that, elected a bunch of far, far right social conservatives. None of the pet projects of the far right social conservatives should be even remotely surprising to anyone who has been paying attention over the last thirty odd months.
And wowsers, some of them have indeed been a bit odd. However, if the trend continues, please do not be surprised if the goals of the social conservatives expand into still further arenas.
It has to do with the belief that life begins at the moment of conception. It will be interesting to see if Republicans will want Oklahomans to vote in favor of giving personhood to the fetus. If it were to pass it would just mean more legal bills for the taxpayer to fight a court challenge of it.
Apparently there is suspicion that there are fetal stem cells involved, but not in the actual products:

On a related note, what is going on in the SW Quadrant of the metro that is making people vote for these bats**t crazy politicans? (Mr. Shortey represents a big chunck of the Inner Southside) I'm being very serious....
Randy Terrill, Mike Reynolds, Mike Christian, and now this gentleman. Its like a who's who of nutties at the state capitol. Plus, there was David "I love my machine guns" Walters on the OKC city council.
Just when I thought I couldn't read something more ridiculous... I find this thread.
I went to a town hall meeting that featured three Oklahoma state legislators, and they were actually questioned as to how they felt about this fetus bill with the questioner adding that it was making Oklahoma look crazy. All three legislators acted like it was just the height of ridiculousness and did not have one single word to say about it.
They really need to do a better job of shutting down the nut bags getting elected by a few extremist districts. However the local media doesn't help. These people come up with this crazy bills to get air time on TV and then they can turn around and tell their district how hard they are working.
