Default Oklahoma ACLU Director, Joann Bell, Will Soon Retire

Joann Bell is truly one of the most remarkable women in modern Oklahoma history. Lesser women than her would have turned coward and fled the state.

Why does the right hate the ACLU so much? Is is just the religious right or do all conservatives despise the ACLU? It seems like libertarian views would mesh with the principals of the ACLU.

Michael Salem handled some legal work for me. You couldn't find a nicer guy.

Conservatives tend to feel that school children can and should be randomly tested for drugs at any time to do something about kids on drugs. ACLU disagrees, feeling that the Bill of Rights does not allow that.

It's a good time to be there with all the creationist public education legislation we'll probably see in the next couple years. Great for someone trying to make a name for themselves.

Wow, with the current political make up in the legislature and executive branch, times should be flush for the ACLU.

My wife applied for the ACLU director's job back 20 years ago. She was in the final three before Joann Bell was selected.

I often wonder how things would have gone. Now that I read about the hate and violence Bell endured, I guess I'm glad she didn't get hired.

ACLU I think usually comes out against anti Westboro church laws, restricting demonstrations. The ACLU walks the walk no matter how much you dislike the other side.
