"On February 14, a Florida Appeals court ruled there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization. The court reversed the $425,000 jury verdict in favor of journalist Jane Akre who charged she was pressured by Fox Television management and lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information. The ruling basically declares it is technically not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast."
The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdock, argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves. " Fox News gets okay to misinform public, court ruling | Media Reform | CeaseSPIN.org |

The reason I don't like Fox is that those who do listen to it believe the lies and distortions. I don't have cable but I have watched it a few times at the home of others and I was embarrassed that ANYone in American broadcasting would stoop so low. It was so irksome in it's demeanor that I was humiliated that I actually agreed with a lot of what was being said. I hate it when idiots and charletons agree with me. Lord, deliver us from Fox ......and while you are at it you can take CNN too. I cannot imagine how any educated person could sit and listen to their spewings unless forced. I hope they don't continue to claim even a modicum of integrity.
What is REALLY sad is that if they admitted they lied a LOT, their faithful followers would continue watching AND quoting them as though it were the truth. |

So you must dislike all of the other news channels for the same reasons right? Look folks, the biggest lie and distortion in this thread is from the posters pretending that lying and distorting is a trait that is exclusive to Fox News. The rest of the networks are just as bad if not worse and their viewers lap up the lies just as eagerly as Fox viewers do. |

I included CNN but they are a TINY bit more acceptible to me. I have only seen one person on Fox that wasn't acting (quite on purpose) like a snotty nosed teenagers. Most on CNN act more like adults even when they are lying. And NO, the networks are not as arrogant as Fox and CNN.

So just out of curiosity, posters on this thread, since many of you are so down on all news sources and I haven't seen anybody list a "reliable" source, where do you get your news?

Why won't you really answer my question? I really just want to know where you get your news? I'm not trying to make a political jab. A girl just wants to know.

NPR. AndI don't tell me how liberal it is. It is the only source of news and political information that has guests from all persuasions and treats all with complete respect. Not a single asshole host on there. AND I can get BBC World News there, too.

I also like their daily program segments. I used to share the commuter train with Garden Guy back when I lived outside of Philly. He's a hoot! |

They actually seem to care about things like integrity and professionalism on that channel. Give me a raspy voiced Diane Rehm over Larry King or any of those folks. Good intelligent conversation, real experts, no phony news events. Good stuff. It doesn't have to pander to advertisers or any political interests because it's run entirely with donations and gifts from charitable foundations. Good stuff. |

I pledge more money to them than all other things combined every year. It is on all day wherever I am working. I confess I am addicted and that I am in love with Diane. What a great 2 hours every day.

I listen to NPR. I think they're pretty down the middle with views on either side.
drudgereport.com usually has the hot button headlines of the day. I like a good dose of libertarian opinion, too. I didn't realize how libertarian-minded Judge Andrew Napolitano is. He's been impressing me very much. He's on Fox News from time to time, apparently (I don't get Fox News anymore). But, he does a weekly broadcast using Fox's studio at freedomwatchonfox.com. I highly recommend watching the youtube videos of his broadcast. I visit campaignforliberty.com pretty much everyday. Also, I go to mises.org nearly everyday. It tends to take a more philosophical libertarian look at the state of our economy and government. That's pretty much where I get my news. |

I find it really sad that MSNBC has turned into what it has. It is now essentially the liberal equivalent of Fox News.
It is very hard to find good in-depth news out there. NPR as a whole seems to do a very good job at this. Other than that I think it really comes down to picking out one or two shows that are shining stars on otherwise crappy news channels. Some that I might suggest that offer a wide range of views and in-depth knowledge: The Dianne Rehm Show (NPR) BBC World News America (BBC America) This Week with George Stephanopoulos (ABC) Hardball with Chris Matthews (MSNBC) If I'm wanting to hear intelligent partisans speak rationally to try to understand where they are coming from, for conservative stuff I actually find Huckabee (Fox) pretty interesting. For liberal stuff I usually find Bill Maher (HBO) interesting if not entertaining. For business news you've gotta watch CNBC, it's the most informative hands down. |

Hey guys thanks for answering my question. Pretty diverse news sources out there. I think more and more that NPR is the best all around. I do love Dianne Rehm, and All Things Considered, but I gotta tell ya my fav show is Science Friday (too bad its once a week).
I have this habit of waking up in the morning and like some old lady needing a routine, so I eat my cereal and watch the talking heads, but more and more I get angry and just shut the thing off. So frustrating to watch the same repetitive non-informative bullcrud they feed you, while little actual useful information about world happenings seems to occur (mostly pointing fingers at CNN, but also including the morning talk-style shows). To me its not partisan, its just sensationalism at its most obvious. They feed us what they think will get the lowest-common-denominator American to not flip the channel. Too bad I have had the habit of being a lowest-common-denominator in the morning (that changes after coffee, I swear). Its better than the local news though, at least...gawd... |
