Default Bush bows to Saudi King

I had posted this as a reply in another forum, but considering the "outrage" that this topic has generated I thought it needed its own thread.

Those of you who are buying into this hyperventilating nonsense need to see this video showing Bush bowing to the Saudi King. So was Bush being a traitor?

You make a weak case. As I mentioned in the other thread conservatives will just say that Bush didn't bow as deeply as Obama.

I doubt either was being treasonous, but I do think it's just as inappropriate as Obama's. A head bow (such as that rendered to the Queen, by long-standing protocol) is considered an acceptable greeting, but bowing from the waist and certainly at the knees is something I consider unacceptable for a US president to do to a sovereign nation's leader.

A head bow is a sign of respect; a waist/knee bow is a sign of submission. The United States has not and does not submit to any supernational authority.

In Bush's and Obama's cases I think they overdid it.

**Edit: I take it back; the photo is misleading. If he were actually bowing, my above statements would be how I feel. However, watching the video, the only moment Bush leans forward is to allow the medal to be placed over his head, which is done at nearly any medal ceremony for practical purposes to make it easier, not even just as a sign of respect. Bush never leans forward again, and clearly was not bowing like it appears in the photo.

And the point was that Obama was acting subserviant to the king. And so the deeper the bow the more subserviant acting.

    y'know mecarr... you're a partisan shill and a liar.

if you actually watch the video you linked, bush was accepting a medal and having it put around his neck by the king, not bowing to him.

personally, i couldn't care less if obama or bush bowed to the saudi king. it's a diplomatic courtesy. what riles me up is the fact that you're willing to blatantly lie in order to support your 'omg teh gop is teh devul' agenda. you come across just as braindead as the 'sekrit proof hussein obama is a muslim' crowd. grow up.

Okay, for those who do not think Bush bowed enough, is holding hands and giving a peck on each other's cheek enough?

that's the customary greeting in that culture and is done amongst equals. it is not a sign of subservience. try again.

regardless, it doesn't change the fact that you lied.

Greetings are different from subjects' signs of submission and the authority of the other person over him/her.

P.S. Bush did not bow at all. He accepted a medal. It is clear from the video. Olympians do it too.
