Default Moral issues on both sides

After the Clinton incident, seems like a lot of Republicans tend to think only Democrats are involved in sex scandals. Anyways, just had to present this article to show that it goes both ways. Truth is, humans are humans. Regardless of whether you're Republican or Democrat, there's bad apples in every bunch.

"O'Neal gets five-year deferred sentence

By The Associated Press

State Rep. Mike O'Neal was handed a five-year deferred sentence Friday on a misdemeanor charge of outraging public decency by groping a woman at a motel lounge last February.
Photo by Paul B. Southerland. Oklahoma County District Judge Twyla Mason Gray ordered O'Neal to pay $512 to the victim in the case and $488 to the Oklahoma Victims' Compensation Fund.

Gray also ordered the Enid Republican to undergo an alcohol evaluation and to follow its recommendations.

O'Neal, handcuffed to another prisoner, had no comment as he left the courtroom for final processing before his release after serving 30 days in jail as part of a plea agreement.

"He's happy to get out," said his attorney, D.C. Thomas.

O'Neal, 55, originally was charged with sexual battery, a felony. That charge was reduced to a misdemeanor under the plea agreement between Oklahoma County District Attorney Wes Lane's office and O'Neal's defense.

The legislator had been accused of grabbing the victim's buttocks and making a vulgar remark.

Lane said O'Neal's actions were the "acts of a drunken fool" and not "a sexual predator."

If O'Neal had been convicted on the original charge, he would have had to register as a sex offender.

Before his final sentence Friday, O'Neal told the judge he did not know if he had an alcohol problem.

He said he drank for the first time of the 2004 legislative session before the Feb. 10 episode at the motel that sent him in jail.

The House member said he could not remember anything that happened the night of Feb. 10. "I must have blacked out," he said.

Judge Gray told O'Neal she was not an expert, but if he drank and blacked out she suspected "you do have a problem with alcohol and you are going to get an evaluation."

Assistant District Attorney Gayland Gieger said that O'Neal could face a year in jail if he did not follow recommendations of his alcohol counselor.

Under a deferred sentence, the misdemeanor charge will be expunged from court records if O'Neal follows terms of his probation and has no further law violations over the five-year period.

Gieger called it "a fair resolution" to the case.

O'Neal is completing his fourth two-year term in the House. He did not seek re-election, but will continue to receive his $38,000 annual paycheck until his term expires Nov. 16. "

Some guys think with the wrong head, no matter how they vote.

I personally don't care much about someone's sex life. I work in the creative community & life is already too complicated to try & keep track of who's sleeping with who or what.

Now this is a not really a partisan statement, but I would prefer that we were still talking about semen stained dresses instead of blood stained body bags.

But that's just me, I've known plenty of good, smart people who I wouldn't want my daughter to date, but they are the first I would call if something needed done well.

I've never met a state congressman on either side of the aisle that I would describe as honest or honorable.

I think these types of events do show you what kind of character an individaul has and what type of moral fiber they are cut from.

Integrity, honor, etc. are things that matter to me when I'm looking at who the best leader on the ballot is.

Thumbs up Re: Moral issues on both sides

"I've never met a state congressman on either side of the aisle that I would describe as honest or honorable."

My point exactly! I don't expect honesty from a politician, So I'm never disappointed.

Funny, judging a politician by who they sleep with to determine their "Integrity, honor," seems like judging the gas milage of a car by looking at the hub caps.

I'd rather look at what they do in their office.

I said that..

I should revise and say that there are some exceptions.

I find no fault in the honor of our President or in Dr. Coburn. I think they're both good men. Misguided on certain issues, but essentially they are good and honorable men from what I can ascertain.

I like a man or woman whose actions and words correspond. I'm not getting that often from very many Democratic Candidates in this election.

I do sometimes support Democrats. Vince Orza comes to mind. Oklahoma would be well served to elect a man like that.
