Default Possible solution to immigration problem?

I usually don't listen to Conservative radio programs. But I was doing so this evening -- Michael Savage was the show. Normally, this guy comes off as flippant at best (and I suppose this idea was pretty flippant).

Savage had a proposal that was both funny and interesting at the same time. He proposed that we solve the immigration problem with Mexico by charging Mexico 1 barrell of oil per month for each illegal immigrant they've allowed over here. Let American companies go down there and drill their massive oil reserves.

We'd be killing two birds with one stone

This brings up a good point. Mexico has some pretty huge oil reserves that are untapped. Why doesn't the United States partner up with its fellow neighbor to lessen it's dependence on Middle Eastern oil?

Fox has elected at this point to sit on 'em.

That's a shame...he could make some big bucks off of them by selling oil to the US.
