Looks like Bush got a pretty nice bounce from the Republican convention. He now leads Kerry by 7 points in the latest Gallup poll. I still think it's a clsoe race though.....as enthusiasm from the convention wears off, I think things will tighten up again. Truth is, the nation is evenly split. It will be an interesting election.

I have to agree with the media on one thing that was said this morning.....both the Democratic and Republican Conventions were just avenues for the candidates to take jabs at each other. They had some interesting speakers at both conventions, but the democrats knocked the republicans and the republicans knocked the democrats. I am glad it is over with. Now, let's get on with the election.

I agree. Both conventions seemed to be nothing more than fighting grounds. I personally hate negative campaign tactics, and this election has by far been one of the worst. Both sides have really faught nasty campaigns.
I'm ready for November to get here so we can get this over with. |

That's just one poll. I know Time and Newsweek showed Bush ahead by a lot larger margins, but they're not as reputable. Gallup is though. The ICR/International Communications Research poll (pretty reputable) released today on Pollingreport showed them tied among likely voters, and showed Kerry up by 2 points among registered voters (that's all statistically a tie). Without Nader in the picture, it was even closer. Nader seems to be drawing equally from both parties, so doesn't seem like he's going to be affecting the democratic vote this election. The latest Zogby Poll (up there with Gallup in reputation) shows Bush up by two points (a statistical tie).
Newsweek showed Bush up by 11 points, and Time showed Bush up by 10. But those were released reight after the convention. As time pases, those numbers are fading quickly and the election now appears back where we started: tied! Rasmussen Reports showed Bush up by as many as 4 points after the convention, but now has tem statistically tied. American Research Group shows Kerry at 46% and Bush at 45%.....again a statistical tie. So it really depends on what poll you look at. The nation is pretty divided, so I see this being just as close, if not closer than Election 2000. |
