Default Call your Representative...

It works. They listen. Tell them your thoughts on this bailout bill or any future bailout bill.

I called Congresswoman Fallin to voice my concern about the bailout bill. She voted against it thankfully. I called back to say thanks!

I'll make it really easy for those of you in Congresswoman Fallin's district. Her OKC office number is: (405) 234-9900. Someone actually answered this morning. By the way, her DC office number is full.

I'm telling you, no matter what kind of scare tactics the media or politicians use, they will vote the will of their constituents if they know their political career depends on it. Exercise your freedom. Call your representative.

What exactly are your thoughts on the bill? I can't imagine someone who actually understands the pickle we're in voting against the bill.

I posted this in another thread.

This is a good concise article explaining what could and should be done instead of a bailout.

Pffft...I'm a Democrat and I say, "Tom Coburn for Treasury Secretary!" Call me crazy, but I trust his judgement and motives more than the rest of Washington combined.

Paul Krugman said, "There are no atheists in foxholes and no Libertarians in a finacial crisis."

As for the Free Market, it choked on it's own greed which is what usually happens.

No, government involvement is what messed up the market.

As usual, government involvement makes things less efficient and more expensive.

It is amazing how you can get your elected official to do something in an election year. If this was next March...it probably would have passed.

I'm with you Luke. I'm already going to be shoveling out a lot of taxes in the future to support social security for our baby booming parents. I don't want $2300 added to my tab. I don't care how many years they spread that out on either...

Interesting that the market gained back more then half what it lost yesterday.

I think there needs to be more government involvement. They need to shut down Fannie and Freddie tomorrow! Then they need to impeach the congressmen who failed to bring it under control be it Reps or Dems.

Maybe congress needs to keep promising to do something and never do it. This would keep the market up and be true to form for the way congress operates.

I think all of the local offices of Senators and Congressmen have real human
beings who answer the phone. I called Inhofe's office yesterday to get the
bill number and where I can read it online.

The Bail Out Ploy
At the risk of sounding very blunt (I mean no personal offense) but ignorance of the situation not a sufficient reason to just sit there on your fanny and do nothing while our economy and way of life collapse around us. A simple Google search can answer most of your questions. And I realize that most people do not like this bill, but what has the "F*** Wall Street" crowd proposed that is so much better. Let the market work? I don't think either you or me are truly prepared to what that will entail, but I will say its going to get ugly and its going to affect more than just fat cats in ivory towers.

Every business owner, person with a 401K, or anyone who works for a private or public business that I have talk to gets what is going on, and may have personal disguist with the situation, but they support some sort of major government interaction. For what its worth, Mr. Pork-Fighter Tom Coburn was planning on voting for it once it reached the Senate. I don't get all of this BS about congresspeople getting calls 300/1 against it.

And Luke, thank you for posting those phone numbers of congressmen. I planning on calling Tom Cole and telling him thanks for putting our country's future first before political decisions that change at the whim of angry sheeple. I'm still debating on whether to call Mary Fallin and tell her what an idiot she is....

Thanks for you reply.

However, I've done more than a simple Google search because I don't want most
of my questions answered. I want all of them answered. That's why I composed
the post in the first place. There aren't enough good answers and too many
answers that contradict other answers.

Ignorance? I think think not.

The $700 billion check can wait.

The DOW fell 777 points Monday and gained back 485 points Tuesday. This is why the bailout is a giant sham! The market will keep rolling. Let the damn banks that were stupid with their money fail. There are enough banks that are strong to absorb the failed bank. They were saying a few weeks ago that if WAMU failed, the system would crash. Well, it failed (GOOD), and it was bought by Chase. Ummm, how is this bad. The people who banked at WAMU will see no difference except they are now banking at Chase. The government spent no money on the transaction. The only people who got screwed were the execs at WAMU. CRY ME A RIVER! They deserve it. They were the idiots who could not successfully run a bank. Their bank with over 350 billion in assets was sold for a little over 1.5 billion. A great deal for Chase, a bad deal for the fat wallets of the execs at WAMU!

As I said before, the market will keep rolling. Yesterdays drop was only 7.5 percent. This is not even in the top 10 of largest market declines. The worst was the day before the great depression when the market dropped over 25 percent...in one day. Hell, the market dropped over 22 percent back in 1987, but the market didn't crash then. What makes you think it will now. THE MARKET GOES UP AND DOWN. THAT IS THE NATURE OF THE BEAST!

I am reminded of something Bill Clinton said back in 1993..."We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans."

Taken out of context:

FactCheck.org: Did Bill Clinton say, "We can't be so fixated on our desire to preserve the rights of ordinary Americans"?

I don't think the bailout is a sham. There really are banks that will fail without it. Will America collapse? Uh..no....I don't think so. Yes, we may be in for some hard times, but I think the American public is saying, "We got drunk on greed. Okay..fine. Now we have to pay the piper. Let's tighten our belts and ride this thing out." I think America is READY to sacrifice in order to right the ship. I think folks are in favor of a limited "bailout". They just don't want to see it done across the board, IMHO.
