Whoever the candidate is I hope the opponents will realize that January is going to be a very bad month regardless of who is elected. January is typically one of the worst performing months on Wall Street, add to that the *bipartisan* bailout plan that is happening today and so we can expect the economy to tank big time 1Q 2009. I can almost already hear the talking points in my head that either party will be dishing out against their opponent next year.

The thing is, we'll never know how the person who isn't elected would have done. Nor will the person elected get all of their agenda approved by Congress. This country has survived plenty of bad presidents (the last eight years hopefully included in that "survived" tally), and although I'm a "lib", I know we'll survive McCain too, should he win.

With the next four years in view now, I am predicting the following:
1. Mass movement of money from the US companies to foreign markets. 2. Gold will be come a hot commodity (Look for gold to rise above $950 per oz this next week). 3. The spin will begin right after Nov 3rd how much Bush left the country in bad shape (see some on here giving him the blame now) no matter that it began in the Clinton years. 4. Social experimentation will be come a disaster with homeless people demanding Malibu beach front homes as the libs move to redistribution of wealth. 5. National Guard will be called out to suppress riots. |

Usually the economy and the cycles that it goes through have absolutely nothing to do with the President or the Congress, and unfortunately both seem to always get the credit or the blame when things go one way or the other.
This isn't the case this time around. It is clear to me that a large part of our problem is that we have printed up a trillion new dollars in the last eight years, largely to support a war. Historically it is well known that wars cause stagnation in the markets. Add to that the fact that we are on the verge of printing up another trillion and I think our dollar is about to weaken to a new all-time low. I think one of those hickeys we are about to take falls squarely at the Bush Administration's feet. The other, I agree, has roots that go way back and span several administrations. I will say it right now. Whether it is a Republican or a Democrat in office after the new year what is about to come is not their fault. |
