Default Ron Paul on Freddie and Fannie in 2003

Sometimes I think he's a prophet...

Quote:
After all, if Fannie and Freddie were not underwritten by the federal government, investors would demand Fannie and Freddie provide assurance that they follow accepted management and accounting practices.

Ironically, by transferring the risk of a widespread mortgage default, the government increases the likelihood of a painful crash in the housing market. This is because the special privileges granted to Fannie and Freddie have distorted the housing market by allowing them to attract capital they could not attract under pure market conditions.
Quote:
Congress should act to remove taxpayer support from the housing GSEs before the bubble bursts and taxpayers are once again forced to bail out investors who were misled by foolish government interference in the market.
He knows his stuff.

Fannie and Freddie by Rep. Ron Paul

So what? A lot of horrified Oklahomans would give an absolute thumbs down to Ron Paul because he believes in legalizing marijuana. If anything, Oklahomans think the drug laws in this state should be more harsher. No more getting a 15 year or more sentence for growing marijuana and then being let out after a few years. After all, many Oklahomans think marijuana smokers are crazy and highy dangerous. Ever heard of Reefer Madness? Many Okahomans believe that's no lie, whatsoever.

And remember the infamous case of Will Foster of Tulsa? He got 93 years in prison for growing marijuana and Gov. Keating let him out after only a few years. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the majority of Oklahomans feel that a heck of a lot more people should be given life sentences in prison over using illegal drugs, preferably with no parole or early out.

Well, now you're just wrong. Ron Paul wants to take the power from the federal government and give it to the states.

And with a Ron Paul Presidency the state would have that power.

Again, a Ron Paul Presidency would give the states the power to make those decisions. So, in actuality, YOU would prefer Ron Paul.

The whole marijuana issue is just stupid. Who cares what someone wants to smoke? If we're gonna start prosecuting stupidity, let's start with alcohol.

My point is, I like the idea of local and state governments deciding. Not the federal government. Under a Ron Paul Presidency I am confident that Oklahoma would outlaw abortions. Many other states would too.

Are you ever flat out WRONG! The states already have the power to make laws against drugs as harsh as they feel like. In Oklahoma, you can go to prison for up to life over drugs. But surely many Oklahomans feel the only problem with that is life sentences over using illegal drugs aren't given out often enough. Oklahoma lawmakers have the power to make life sentences mandatory over illegal drug violations if they feel like it. I bet many wish they could to get votes, but finding the tax money to build all those new prisons needed without raising taxes would be too much of a challenge.

If it was up to me to decide, I would legalize marijuana and let it be put up for sale in liquor stores.

It would be incredibly wrong and stupid in this day and age to ban abortion in Oklahoma. Why? Because whatever the government bans it loses control over it. Ban abortion in Oklahoma and other states means you would have abortion out of control. Do you think there should be a law saying underaged pregnant girls should get written permission from a parent before getting an abortion? There couldn't be such a law because abortion isn't supposed to exist!

Banning abortion means many more women than ever would be driven to the Internet looking to found out how the hell one is supposed to use a damned coat hanger to bring about an abortion. Little known ways to self induce abortions would become a lot better known. What a highly sick, morally revolting situation to cause.

And look at what happens in countries where abortion is actually banned. The abortion rate is likely to be higher than it is here in the USA, such as the Latin American countries. On the other hand, abortion is banned and seldom happens in some Islamic countries, such as Saudia Arabia, where women enjoy few rights that the men do when they step outside. I doubt if many Oklahoma women would like to live their daily lives like the women have to in Saudia Arabia.

If people really care about the slaughtering of babies in the womb, then they should work in helping programs designed to prevent women from finding themselves in the position of choice. Too often, all the choices are awful ones. Many married and poor couples in Oklahoma need help with their family planning. They may not be ready for a new child and while not wanting an abortion, painfully decide to put their baby up for adoption. What a pity to give up your own flesh and blood like that.
