Default News 9 vs. The Daily Oklahoman

As we all know News 9 and the Daily Oklahoman recently parted ways (and websites). I was reading this News 9 article today and found it very interesting. Not the subject, but the fact that it seems to be implying The Oklahoman is either editorializing on the news page or is protecting Republicans from hard-hitting news in the paper. It's interesting because it is implied heavily but they never go all the way and name "the paper" as the article says. Just wondering if anyone else noticed the slant in this report and what you think about it and what that might mean about relations between the two news organizations?

This is a bit off topic, but I've heard from one of News 9's reporters that their site has surpassed all the other local news sites, including newsok, in hits.

I would find that a bit surprising... and incredible... as in lacking credibility...

I think Newsok still offers more content.

Not only that, it has wider name recognition and top-of-mind awareness (after several years of very prolific promotion by both The Oklahoma and News9) than news9.com, which only came back to life a little more than a month ago.

Personally, I think the news9.com website looks a bit amateurish compared to its sister station's.

I still go to newsok as opposed to news9.net, but news9's site is leagues and bounds better than KOCO or KFOR's sites in every way.

that may be true, but KOCO and KFOR set the bar pretty low.

I won't argue with that.

News9.com is just another WorldNow cookie cutter site. There are dozens of websites that have this same exact format. Some of the graphics may be a little different, but its all the same. You can look at most of the Disney/ABC owned stations and they all look like this.

Back to the OP topic...I don't think it is a shock that the Oklahoman works to protect the top Republicans in the state. They play to the evangelical radical right in the state...much like KWTV. It's amazing how night and day those two are from a news operation at say KOCO.

Agree with pretty much all the comments here (except the one who says News9 has more hits than newsok.) Either way, both could offer more fair and balanced information with more investigative journalism. Anything that puts pressure on the Daily Oklahoman and OPUBCO is good in my book though.

Because you have facts to the contrary or just a magical feeling?

Perhaps it's all a play on words...hits versus unique visitors. I can sit here and refresh OKCTalk all day long...and they'll probably get more hits than News9.com and NewsOK.com. LOL

Anyways...thanks to jbrown for completely derailing this thread.

I don't see The Oklahoman protecting the religious right. I see them merely telling the truth on the issues. For some, that's too difficult to grasp.

Please see my previous posts on what I can only assume is either a horrible writing style paired with a vapidness usually reserved for television post 2 a.m. or what must surely be bias.

Regarding the various news websites... I really, really wish they wouldn't embed their articles in flash animations (the whole big picture box scrolling through multiple little picture boxes below thing). Either intentionally or unintentionally they disable right clicking in these boxes. Some of us use modern web browsers like FireFox and enjoy tabbing up our articles so we don't have to keep hitting the freaking back button every ten seconds, bogging down the network.

yea. I'll admit. I almost fell for it. Then I realized there's a good reason I rarely post in the "most read on OKCtalk" Life Church threads and decided to not let it get the better of me. Sometimes it's just more fun to sit back and watch the fireworks than set them off yourself.

I peruse NewsOK daily, often reading the comments about some of the articles that deal with local issues. My issue with NewsOK is that it is too cluttered with ads (much like the paper itself), so it's sometimes difficult to find what one is looking for. I do appreciate the changes they made about 4 months ago. It's much more navigable, but could still be approved upon some.

News9 certainly has the cleanest and most user-friendly of any of the station sites. Their video feature is probably the best out there.
