Oh my goodness! Congratulations!
I'm so glad you didn't have to deal with trying to evacuate with your labs due to the fires! Can you imagine the stress on the pregnant mom? Did she have 4 yellows and 3 blacks? The last litter was so beautiful. The puppies all look so squeezable! I love Jette's expression.. all attitude! I'm cute, I know it! I can't have one, but I want one!

wow... pretty good statistics.
Speaking of labs... maybe you know something about this? I just finished cleaning out my dog's ears this morning - again. I can't keep them from getting yucky/infected. I think I know what it is, we have a creek behind our house and he loves to go in it.. but usually, he doesn't get his head wet, he just wades in, lowers his body and crouches down for a few minutes to get cool. Well, I haven't let him do that for a while and his ears still got infected. Have you experienced any ear issues with your labs? He's been on antibotics and cleared up a few times but it just keep reoccuring. I wonder about steroids or stronger antibotics? Anyway, not to go off topic, but I was wondering if it's a breed issue or just my particular dog?

Karrie, it's very common for Labs and other dogs that love the water and have floppy ears to get ear infections.
You should make it a habit to clean them every couple of weeks with this stuff (available from your vet or on-line): You make the dog lay down, give a good squirt into each ear, massage thoroughly with your hands and then use large cotton wipes to clean out. If you wait until they get infected, the only choice is antibiotics. Reina used to get ear infections but since I stated doing the cleanings (which she hates) we haven't had a problem. |

Thanks MalibuSooner, yeah, I've been cleaning ears for awhile .. and he hates it too! Glad to know it's not just us!
That puppy video is so cute with little puppy noises! It's pretty amazing how gentle she is with them... you would think with one wrong move of the paw, it could be catastrophic!

I may have posted this before but here's a great little video from the last litter when the pups were about 7 weeks old:

Those puppies are the cutest things ever...I still want one !!! But, I can't imagine what my big oaf of a Lab - Kodi would think of a 'mini' Kodi!
Reina is a smart mother.. she naps when the babies nap!

They are really fun from this point on.
Once their eyes open, they start to move around on all fours (as opposed to crawling), they can hold their heads up for the first time and they start their little puppy barks and growls. In a few more days, they'll be all over the place and then by the weekend, they get their first solid food. At four weeks, they'll have outgrown their box (and mom's ability to clean up after them), so they'll go outside in a kennel I build. This will probably happen over Thanksgiving.
