Default Jury Duty Excuses

I thought I'd restart this thread, but this time let's stick to topic.

Are there any crazy jury duty excuses you've ever heard used? I hope this will be a fun thread. Feel free to list real excuses, or ones you've heard of. Or make up your own crazy excuses.

Enjoy.

I'll give oen to start.....how about a guy using the excuse that he's pregnant! Just kidding.

Pregnancy could be used by someone as an excuse.

An excuse that you are a single parent with children who are sick and no one else that can take care of them but you.

Okay, I guess I should come up with a real excuse here. How about telling them that you're so addicted to cigarettes that you'd have to get up every 10 minutes and leave the room to go take a smoke. Otherwise, it would throw you into a horrible withdrawal.

Heroine, maybe, but cigarettes? No way.

I'd look at other factors than your nicotine habit in determining whether I thought you'd be a good juror. Of course, if I'm looking for a bunch of dumb jurors, a heavy smoker generally indicates that I've found my guy!

(the underlying premise is that you have to be an imbecile to smoke that much)

How about the young lady who has her cell phone implanted in her ear, and the only way she could hear the testimony or instructions is if they call her, and she listens on the phone?

What if you have a serious medical condition........such as unexplained, spur of the moment, farts? What if you have a serious problem with gas, and Tums or Rolaids won't work?

What if, no matter how much soap you use, and how many times you shower, you stink? You have a serious body odor problem.

These excuses sound too much like I hear when my tenants will not pay the rent.

Maybe we should get the other jury-duty-excuses thread out and dust it off??? LOL Just kidding.

Okay, I thought this was really funny considering I'd made a comment in the previous Jury Duty Excuse thread...that people should consider it part of their priviledge of being an American.

I got my very first JURY DUTY SUMMONS TODAY!!!! LOL! Talk about timing.

I'm so mad! I have to cancel my son's basketball Chris Paul camp because I've been summoned for Jury Duty the same freaking week. I don't have a sitter and I have no way of getting him back and forth because I'll be stuck in some stupid courtroom because some lowlife decided to (possibly) commit a crime. I'm so pissed off. I have to pay to cancel and I'll have to try to find a sitter.. my husband will be in Enid so there is no way I can leave my kids home.

This is so frustrating!!

Do you think they will excuse me because it's summer and the kids can't stay home alone?

I don't care if I go during school but summer - who is supposed to watch my kids and if it is longterm, the whole summer is screwed because all of the plans will have to be cancelled.

Should I try to be excused? I was already excused once because I was called the week prior and I will be out of state. I'm not sure what to do.

Karried -- if I could, I'd stand in for you

Bummer... All you can do is show up though.

You can tell your reason for needing to be excused to the Judge or Court Clerk---I am sure you would go through the Court Clerk in Oklahoma County anyway---and see what they tell you. Note that I said reason.

Did they give instructions in your summons if you need to be excused? I, too, would love to take your place; I need the rest.

Thanks - I feel a little better but it is disappointing to have to cancel plans for the kids. They say to show up the Friday before but that they will only excuse for extreme hardships... I doubt missing Chris Paul Camp would be considered as such... although I am so bummed - maybe I can claim insanity due to depression and they'll let me off!

I don't know...it's not often we have Chris Paul Camp here. It's worth a try, Karried. Those gals are really nice, too. You might try to plead motherhood with them and see if they'll put you back in the "spin" for the next round?

Just so you know, during my VERY brief stay at the county courthouse, I got to sit and listen to one of the worst ADA's in the state talk about chocolate chip cookies and the "CSI factor" before I returned to the Jury pool. Then I got to go home the next day because there were no other cases on the docket.

Apparently, these cases rarely last more than a few days, so maybe you'll get out of there after just one day.

Y'know, you can always just be very contrary with the ADA and say "kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out!"

Hmmmm, someone here made a suggestion to me awhile back when I was faced with having to serve jury duty in the face of having to take medical boards.

".....here is a novel idea: "Just do your civic duty and serve on jury duty."

But since you OBVIOUSLY have other duties others do not, well, you seem to have lots of time to post on this board, so just do your civic duty---chances are you will not set on a jury, so you can take your books and get paid for studying."

LOL! I'm completely joking Karried. I hope you're able to get out of it.

Totally different situation between Karried and Patrick when the whining set in---Karried did not say that she OBVIOUSLY was too important to go to jury duty; she just laid out what her reason was for not wanting to go.

Still though, all kidding aside---I always enjoyed jury duty, and I got on some cases: One case, the DA was asking me questions, and I did not like the way she was asking, so I was argumentative, and I told her no matter what she proved the Defendant did, I would vote on the jury the way I wanted to. I was sure she intended to take me off the jury, but she was so rattled, she kept me. I did not get the girl released, but I got the other jurors to at least agree to no jail time. I was afraid if we had a hung jury, another jury might give her some jail time, and I wanted to give her a medal.

LOL Of all things, a 23-year-old girl had embezzeled some office-supply money from a pack of lawyers: her employers; ain't that a hoot! LOL

Patrick, whoever made that statement is right. I get tried of people trying to get out of serving for this reason or another. I serve my citizens everyday. It doesn't hurt for you and Karried to serve your citizens for a short span of time.

DeJavu.....I know I have read that somewhere on this board. "Just do your civic duty and serve on jury duty."
