Default Credit Repair Scams

Do law firms that specialize in credit repair like the one listed below really work?

It seems to be valid. However, they're not really performing any 'legal services' per se. They're just writing letters (probably form letters) to dispute the things on your credit report that you have pointed out to them. It's not a scam, and it very well might get results. However, after you yourself have obtained your credit report and found the items that should be disputed, you've already done about 70% of the work involved. Why not just write the letters yourself? You really don't need to obtain legal counsel until the credit bureau wrongly denies your claim.

The only "credit repair" there is, is to pay your deliquent bills. You can't "repair" your credit by letters unless you have documentation proving otherwise.

metro, that's what the site seems to cover. It is fairly common for credit reports to contain inaccurate data. This firm provides you with the report that you could easily procure for yourself, then asks YOU to do the leg work in ferretting out the inaccuracies (you're really the only person in a position to do this).

They only provide any substantial service in the event that you find an innacuracy.

I don't think it's a scam per se. It appears to be a bona fide service. Some people need their hands held through such a process.

If a person did have an error on their credit report, or had reason to suspect one existed, they might seriously consider contracting this firm to help them out.

I used to be a loan officer and worked with credit reports, credit bureau's and lenders daily. You're right, it is a legitimate service but an unnecessary one unless you need your hand held. Unless your a victim of identity theft or paid a bill that is still showing on your credit, or the amount is a discrepancy, there is really nothing to repair. Some of these companies out there that claim to "fix" your bad credit that you are responsible for, claim they can "fix" it though. For every legitimate company out there, there are several that are scamming.
