Default Motorcycle endorsement

The boy came home with a rumor that he can get his motorcycle license at 15. This seems dubious, but I cannot find a reference, specifically. It appears he has to have a valid driver's license to get the M endorsement... so there we are. Anyone know for sure?

I also noticed that OK failed to carry over my own M when I moved here and changed the license over. Now I gotta go take the test, as they refuse to fix it now. (My fault, I should have checked.)

Looks like we may both test. It feels weird to take a driver's test after 20 years of riding.

* gasp * My son wants a motorcycle so badly! He'll go crazy if he finds out he can get a license at 15 (which he'll be this Spring!). I've told him no way, no how will he get a motorcycle. I can't even think of him driving a car! uh uh uh uh ..... no way.

I don't know if it's changed, but I had mine at 14.5 years old.

If I recall correctly, there were a lot of restrictions too. I couldn't ride on the interstate, no bikes over 125cc, no riding after dark, and I think a 55mph cap, among a few others.

If you are under the age of 16, you may apply for a motorcycle learner's permit. Until you turn 16, you are not allowed to carry a passenger. This permit has numerous other restrictions::

* Motorcycle or scooter must be no larger than a 250cc piston displacement.

* You may ride only between 4:30 a.m. and 9 p.m.

* If your motorcycle piston displacement is smaller than 125cc, your speed may not exceed 35 mph.

* If your motorcycle piston displacement is larger that 125cc but smaller than 250cc, you may drive the posted speed limit; however, you may not ride on an interstate highway or turnpike.

These restrictions will automatically lift when you become 16 years of age; however, while you are still under 18 years of age, you must wear a helmet.

Hey the Blue Note offers free drinks to the first motorcycle to show up on Saturdays I think and that includes the passenger. Maybe don't tell you 16 year old that though.

I believe that is what I wanted to know. Thanks!

My bikes are 650 and 1100cc, so he's outta luck there. I might let him ride the 650 once he has some experience. The 1100 is out of the question until he's 30.

lol.. you sound just like me...

Are you scared to let him get a learner's permit even to drive a car? I am petrified. I'm so scared something will happen to him.. I can't bear the thought.

Can you even believe we are even talking about letting our kids drive!? I still remember just like yesterday holding him all wrapped up like a little burrito the day I brought him home... oh no, here I go..ahhhhhggggg boooo hoooooo!

It's gone too fast! (yes, being the only female in my family drives my guys crazy!)

Darn, I just posted a whole long novel ( and didn't post it on accident!) about how I asked him to pull the car forward out of the garage ... without realizing that he didn't have a clue about how to do so! I figured I've been chauffering him around for years, he should be able to figure out how to step on the brake, ease the shifter to drive and ease forward..
uh, uh.

He found reverse. Thankfully, soon after, within a millimeter to spare, he found the brake!

We all learned a valuable lesson that day..

Walking is great exercise! lol

Suffice it to say, we figured out that monkey see isn't always monkey do and we have to start from the basics....

If I may suggest, try to find a real good deal on a Buell Blast.
It's a 500 cc single, designed from the ground up to be a beginners bike.
It was purchased for my beloved bride, who decided after the safety course she did not want to ride. (Statistics scared her off). The Blast is now my "spare" since the 19 y/o Harley is becoming more maintenance intensive. I enjoy riding it, as it holds the road better than the Harley and has better brakes.

lol... you'd fit right in with my household..

I'm always being mocked for being sentimental by the 'boys'.

Heavy sigh... you say that now, but I'll bet you'll have some sleepless nights when he's running late ( even though you won't admit it) .. lol

PS... I miss our Harley!!! I'm thinking now that the kids are a little older, we should look into another one.. we had some of the best times riding and meeting new friends ....

Well, it's a pretty bike, but as Harley makes the motor, I'd rather have something reliable. Maybe an engine design from after 1936.
