A writer at the paper, I think it was Bob Hersom but it might have been the late Bob Colon, said in a column that citizens should just nickname it "the Brick" and not worry about what anyone SAYS its name is.

I remember not liking that nickname at the time (gotta say it still bugs me a bit, in fact), but it never went through me quite as much as "Boomers" is bothering me in Berry's columns. Contrived is contrived. Bludgeoning us with it in EVERY SINGLE COLUMN ABOUT THE THUNDER doesn't make it any better.

Kudos for taking it to him, Doug.
I hadn't noticed him using Boomers so much lately ... maybe I've not read his columns all that closely. The good thing seems to be that he still stands alone in this. Hope it stays that way. All he does is reinforce the sentiments of those who don't care for how he carries himself. I wish that the Oklahoman would run a poll ...

The more it is discussed... the more the name sticks.

Yeah, right. Go out and spend some money on a Boomer t-shirt like Thunder said above (but without a link for proof).

But do stand ready for the possibility of being silently or verbally scorned if you decide to wear it in public. While Berry Tramel won't probably care one one way or another about possible consequences to you, you might. It's probably best that you keep it your closet with your long-playing 33 1/3 rpm wax album containing Berry Tramel's all-time-greatest hits (or misses) in his all-time best predictions category.

If it wasn't a ladies shirt, I would definitely consider it. I really do like the nickname Boomers. It's really not that bad IMO.

Is there a link to the shirt you're talking about, Thunder?

Luke, call Hard Edge

Buy 20-40, hawk them outside a game. Start a trend.

I can see it now...

Half the Ford Center yelling "THUNDER!" and the other half yelling "BOOMERS!"

We could even rename Loud City... BOOM TOWN!

You can take her estate and I'll have your awesome house.

(Wish Luke would let me rent it (or rent to own).)

I can tell you really want this...

So, I've got this idea...

Let's print up some shirts and slap a really cool design on them. I'm thinking with THIS on it...

Why? Because THAT, my friend, is a Mountain Boomer native to the Wichita Mountains in SW Oklahoma. Slap a cowboy hat on that puppy, give it a sawed off shotgun and add some lightning bolts and it alllll comes together.

If this thread is any indication, everybody will want them because Boomers is just so freakin' cool.

That's why I'm gonna make this deal... 80-20.

Let's go.

I wish my elder son wasn't traveling out of country right now. He loves to Photoshop stuff and would probably have a field day with that concept. too cute

The reason you haven't heard it a lot lately is because Berry mostly writes about OU, but when an option arises that he can tie it in with the Thunder, he uses the "Boomers" reference.

It's back again:

"Would have been nice for the Thunder to stay undefeated with the Lakers coming to town Tuesday night. But the Boomers will beat no one with Durant going 3-for-21."

The NFL San Diego Chargers are called the Lightning Bolts by some so really no big deal.
Call them what you want as long as they are winning.

I have some choice names for the way certain team members played last night, however. If a certain three team members would have stayed home and got some rest on saturday night after playing a tough game in detroit
on friday, rather than going to stillwater to cheer on the longhorns, maybe their game would have been more crisp.

One went 3 for 21, another one turned the ball over nine times and set a franchise record for the lowest number of assists in a game while the third one was handling the ball much too long when the shot clock went down to zero on three separate occassions.

Maybe their saturday night in stillwater did not impact their sunday night performance but one has to wonder.

OH YEAH!!! I'm really sure standing on the sidelines at a football game takes so much energy out of you!! These guys train harder than any of you could probably even imagine... Standing on the sidelines of a football game IS resting to them. Last night was nothing more than an off night for a couple players. You can't beat one of the best teams in the Western Conference when your two best players don't have a good game.

This guy is an idiot, plain and simple. He is a guy abusing his media "power" so that he can somehow justify his existence in life. Rather than reporting the NEWS fairly without some bias or theme, he constantly uses the D'Ok as his pulpit to spread his word. A degree of fascism right in OKC - say it aint so.....

Enough with the Boomers. There is only ONE Boomer Sooner, and it is OU.

The University of Oklahoma, Boomer Sooners.

read that Trammel.

Come on now - you're off base on this one. Trammel may be many things, but an idiot he's not.

It's called a 'column.' He is a 'columnist.' His job is to write his opinion. Every newspaper has them. And he's not abusing anything close to media power. He isn't charged with writing the factual news stories, rather, to write his opinion and observations of the game or event. That's why there is always an accompanying article on the game itself, containing the facts of the game.

You may not agree with his take on the subject and you can rag on him all you want about his incessant use of 'Boomer.' But not for doing his job.
