I did not say invite a stranger, I said someone with whom you come in contact with on a regular basis until you know them well enough to do so.

Still not planning on inviting my local Home Depot flooring guy over to help lay tile. It's creepy and a girl could be setting herself up for some real problems. Meaning, just because YOU may think "oh, she some help painting" doesn't mean another guy wouldn't be thinking "ooh...'painting'...so THAT'S what she calls it."

You mean to tell me, if you knew the guy pretty well and you needed help with something like that you would not ask?

No, I wouldn't. The thing is, just because you interact with them on a somewhat regular basis, you still don't know them very well. Especially with some of the sickos out there who are complete sociopaths. Ted Bundy seemed like a really nice, non-threatening guy, too.

Heck no, I wouldn't invite someone over to my home on a first date.

Mariner, with as much bitching as I've seen you do about "getting burned", I'm not sure I trust your judgement with regards to women. You might be wise to avoid helping a girl paint her home on a first date.

With all do respect, with your way of thinking you aint ever going to meet anyone then if you come in contact with someone on a regular basis and still dont trust them well enough to have them over your house. Heck, people have killed their spouses of 20 years before so you might as well never get married.

apparently, you are connecting dots that shouldn't be connected. I'll give this my final attempt for explanation, and then I'm done with this conversation. Never mind the fact we're way off topic.

No, I would not invite my favorite bartender/waiter/saleperson/whatever to my home on a first date...it doesn't matter if I chat with them everytime I visit the establishment. Heck, there's people I work with every day and know very well that I wouldn't invite to my home.

However, that does not mean I wouldn't go out with him. I would happily meet him for the first several dates until I felt comfortable enough with him to have him come to my home.

And I know you're still not getting it, so I'll simply say: young, single women who live by themselves have to be safe and watch out for themselves. Period. Inviting a man you don't really know over to your house to help you paint is not only unwise, but it also reflects weakness, which some folks prey upon.

Go-karts and putt-putt are my favs. oh..and bowling!

Anytime you want to go, let me know.

Isn't it Incredible Pizza? I've never been, so I'm not sure.

It all depends...the first 1-3 dates is a bit hard as you usually need some sort of "general" interests. Some interesting ones are:

Literature reading nights at coffee shops
Comedy club
Just going around for a tad bit of shopping (amazing how much info you can find out here!)
Go to one of the multitude of museums around in OK (Tulsa/OKC has some okay ones)
Stop by at a cafe-style hotspot for a dimly lit cultural hangout
Catch some small bands somewhere
a round of 9-hole golf / driving range / etc

it all depends on what ya know about your date

Stroll/picnic at the myriad gardens (it's all lit up at Christmastime, too!).
Go to the zoo.. a blast at anytime, especially when it's 110 degrees (great way to see how good of a sport your date is.. and guys if she's wearing a white t-shirt.. haha!)
Go to a flea market and see who can buy the most stuff for a set amount of money or see who can come up with the most creative gift for the other person (probably not a first date idea).
Go watch little league anything.. baseball, soccer, etc!
Leadership Square (if it still exits) or the science-y place by the zoo (can't remember it's name)
Art museum.. it's always to pretend you're a world renound art critic!

Alrighty.. I was bored! The game's over and the pokes lost.. boo! So, I'm consoling myself with Coke and pretzels and OKCTalk!
Watching little league "anything" is an awesome idea!!! Especially with the younger kids (4-6 yr olds). So cute, and so entertaining.

Crystal Bridge is awesome too. However, in all that years that I've lived here, I've never gone during the holiday season. I should put that on my "to do list" for this year. Now I just need to find someone to go with.

I've never been to the Omnidome, but have been to the Omniplex MANY times. I don't see many new exhibits there, so I'm kinda burned out on that. But I would like to see a movie at the Omnidome.

And finally....I would absolutely love to go ice skating, roller blading, etc....but only if someone would be willing to teach me, and most importantly, catch me or break my fall. Anyone interested???

I've never been to a comedy club either. The only one I know if is the Looney Bin on NW Expressway. Anyone ever been to that one?

Holy smokes...I need to stop reading, and replying to, this thread. I'm exposing just how boring I am. (No need for any A-Team comments Daisy!)

HELP?!?!?!?!

Oh now, I am getting it. But still you cannot live your life in fear. You might as well never give out your number, cuz a guy can find out where you live from that, you might as well never give out your real name, cuz a guy can find out where you live from that, heck when you do go out on a date, you better not even let him see your car cuz he can find out where you live from your plate, how about the guy next door? how do you know he wont snap one day and come in your house? you just cannot live your life in fear like that. Like you said, everyone thought Ted Bundy was a nice guy until he snapped so you might as well never trust a soul, cuz you just never know what might happen.

mariner, give it up. you just don't get it, so give it up. your stubborn ignorance in this matter is annoying and tiresome. Don't talk about something you know nothing about.

It's not about living in fear. It's about being sensible in what you do and how you behave and how you protect yourself. Great for you if you go over to a girl's house to help her paint on the first date. Hurrah for you. Whoopie. I've acknowledged that you'd be happy to do that...great. Go forth and paint.

Now let's move on.

gbyte, those are some great ones. I forgot about the comedy club thing until I was just enjoying my sofa in a half-vegetative state while watching the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour".

That would actually be a great OKCTalk singles get together. FUN STUFF.

Tickets are sold on a first come, first served basis, so coordinating this type of get together is going to take some major planning and commitments.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

They don't sell advance tickets??? Well, that's just silly.

I'm thinking perhaps an outing to INCREDIBLE Pizza (thanks for correcting me on that, Intrepid. DUH.) for some of us. It would be light-hearted fun and noone would be 'stuck' sitting there waiting for the show to end.

I'm game for that or Laser Tag (either in Moore or N. OKC). I've never been to the one in Moore.

I've been once to the on the northside. It was awesome. No food or drinks sold there. They do have a few arcade games.

I know nothing about Incredible Pizza.

I thought there was also Joker's unless that has closed down now :|

Depending on the times I might be up to do something even though I don't know if I would still qualify as single (waiting to find out, hehe)....but getting to know more people around here is always good

I believe that Jokers shut down awhile back. Can anyone else confirm this?

I just called the number and it was dead.

There's a place out on Rockwell & NW Expressway though called The Loony Bin. Quality entertainment! I've been there quite a few times.
